....bacteria contamination [ so don't use on.... ].....

Jergens Ultra Healing Moisturizer Recalled Due to Possible Bacterial Contamination

....The voluntary recall includes certain lots of the 3 ounce and 10 ounce moisturizer

Kao USA Inc., owners of the lotion brand Jergens, announced a recall of 3 and 10 ounce bottles of Jergens Ultra Healing Moisturizer today because of possible bacterial contamination.

Some of these bottles could be contaminated with bacteria known as Pluralibacter gergoviae. The bacteria can pose a health risk to people with weakened immune systems who may have higher susceptibility to infections, according to an announcement posted by the Food and Drug Administration. Healthy people face little medical risk from the pathogen.

CR’s senior scientist, Michael Hansen, PhD, notes that evidence suggests this particular bacteria can enter the body through cuts or abrasions on the skin—a concern for lotion. The same bacteria also prompted a recall of Cottonelle Flushable Wipes in October of 2020.

Personal care products can be contaminated with bacteria due to poor manufacturing conditions, inadequate storage conditions, consumer use, and more, according to the FDA. It’s unknown how this particular product might have been contaminated. “Further investigation to determine the scope of the issue is still ongoing,” notes the company’s posted announcement.

In a statement provided to CR, the company said it is "continuing to work with our partners on improved cleaning and sanitization practices so that similar issues can be prevented in the future."

In addition to issuing a consumer recall, Kao USA Inc. is removing potentially affected lotions from its warehouses and working to get them off store shelves. Products manufactured between October 1 and October 18, 2021 with certain UPC and lot codes could be affected.

If you have a 3 ounce bottle of the Ultra Healing Moisturizer, check the back for one of the following lot codes:

ZU712851
ZU712871
ZU712911
ZU722881
ZU712861
ZU712881
ZU722851

If you have a 10 ounce bottle, check the bottom for the following lot codes:

ZU722741
ZU722781
ZU732791
ZU732811
ZU722771
ZU732781
ZU732801
ZU732821

You can also find the list of codes here. If you have a bottle with one of these codes, call 1-800-742-8798 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern or email consumer@kao.com to receive a coupon for a free replacement, and to get a paid postage label and packaging sent to you, for sending in the recalled lotion.

Great. I finally start using a moisturizer daily after 60+ years and discover that the brand I've been using for the past few months is being recalled. Thankfully, none of the codes recalled matches mine, so I think I'm okay.

The only brand of lotion/moisturizer I've ever bought more than one bottle of is Corn Husker's Lotion because it really does moisturize inside one's skin without leaving the outside feeling greasy or even slimy as most other lotions do. When you work with greasy things and have to wash your hands many times a day using harsh hand cleaners like GoJo, Fast Orange, or even just Lava soap, Corn Husker's Lotion works wonders at keeping your hands from drying out and cracking. It also has little or no aroma, if that matters.

Thanks. Hell, I'm old enough to remember ads for Corn Husker's Lotion on the radio years ago. The reason it took me so long to get started using anything was that I always felt greasy afterward and didn't want to put clothes on after applying it. I may have to give the Corn Husker's a try. I'm assuming it's not just for hands? I end up scratching like a sonofagun with the dry winter skin.

Back in my UPS days when I loaded delivery trucks in the middle of the night, the skin on my hands took a real beating, especially on those dry wintertime nights. I found that if I applied Neutrogena's Norwegian Formula hand cream to them before starting my shift, when I washed my hands after I was finished with work the dirt would come right off and my hands would be baby smooth underneath. I swear by this stuff.
