Q about a network switch (not router)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6833127085&ATT=33-127-085&CMP=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-Network+-+Switches-_-D-Link-_-33127085

say I have a WiFi router with 4 ports, but I have 6 devices I want to use. I plug 3 devices into the router, then I plug in the switch to the 4th port on the router, then the other 3 devices into the switch. The switch does not deal with DHCP issues, the router that that. Correct? So in a way this is like a USB hub so to speak, the computer sees all the devices attached to the USB hub. In this case, the Router sees the devices attached to the Switch and assigns IP addresses.

Right or wrong? Thanks

If you do a lot of heavy file transfers between any two of your machines then make sure they are both connected to the switch.
