Whoa, that was weird ... MacBook shut down by itself...

Had it unplugged from the AC, running on battery power ... battery showed about 95% power... machine just turned itself off, no warning or anything... what could cause that ??? MacBook is a White 2Ghz Duo, running 10.4.11.

Is the battery holding a charge? Could be that defective battery issue - I jut got a new battery on hubby's Macbook because of that -

Or couldn't it be a bad heat sensor? Don't they shut down if they get too hot? There are utilities you can use to measure the CPU heat.

It's a mac-- it knows you were thinking about another mac.

vicrock, how do you mean, holding a charge? You mean if I unplug, with machine shut off, does the battery keep the charge? I think (not 100% sure though) the answer to that is "yes". Reason I say that -- I've often unplugged the machine, shut it (so as to put it to sleep), then brought it home and woken it up... which you would think means that it's holding a charge. What was the defective battery issue?

And to think I've been lumping vicrock together with vikm in my mind . . . won't happen again.

More info:

CoconutBattery reports the battery is at 56% of its original capacity, with 175 cycles. The machine is two years old. That to me for a two year-old battery seems not unreasonable...

Does the shutdown only occur if you are running from battery?
