Or not?


I've got a G4/733 digital audio and according to the Memory vendor DMS it takes this memory:

G4/733 - PC133 168 Pin CL3 32X64-7 Unregistered SDRAM DIMM (8 Chip)

I happen to have a Dell that I'm going to dump and it has two sticks of this memory in it:

Dell/2100 256MB PC133 168 Pin CL3 32X64-7 Unregistered SDRAM DIMM (16 Chip)

Anyone know for certain if the 16 chip memory from the Dell will work in the G4?

The mac will be more picky, so the memory may not work if it isn't perfectly within spec.

But, the memory should work fine. 16 chip means it's low density. The G4 shouldn't have any problems with it.

I tried them and they seem to work just great. Now have 1GB in he ole G4/733

This happens to be the spec for the 256 MB SDRAM for the Digital Audio G4's. The spec for the 512 MB DIMM right after that in the listing is for 16 chip DIMM's.

As others have said, if the rest of the spec's not mentioned in the shorthand version given here do match, then the DIMM's from the Dell should work.
