Statistics gathered by security firm Ciphertrust reveal just how bad the problem of botnets is getting.

"Every day we are detecting more than 250,000 connecting to the internet and sending mail," said Paul Judge, chief technology officer at Ciphertrust.

"That's unique machines that have never done it before," he said. "It's a distribution platform that is becoming more popular for attackers."

Mr Judge said the count of new bots had hit 250,000 every day in November 2005 and had stayed at that level ever since.

OK ... so how many Zombie Macs are out there sending emails? I'd bet ZERO.

How do I make my Mac a zombie? I don't have a CoreDuo, so no XP. Is VPC the only way?

hmmm, jimmypoo, you could really be on to something. We could use our Macs as honeypots to collect infections. Let the hackers think they have a huge zombienet, then just boot into OS X collectively as a whole and watch them scrach their heads trying to figure out what happened to their zombienet overnight. That would be funny...in an extremely nerdy kind of way.
