Display over power: Core 2 Duo wins! 11

69%
Performance over size: Core i3 for me! 5

Both are at the Apple store at around $1100-1200. Each running at 3.06 Ghz, but the Core 2 Duo scores a little higher. WWMD (What Would Macresourcerers Do)?

Maybe it's just late, but it doesn't look like the C2D scores higher on that chart to me.

In most of your everyday usage you will barely notice the speed increase of the i3. But I guarantee you will notice 27" vs. 21".

Answer your own NEEDS. Plus, how long do you plan to keep it? If you don't replace every two years or so, then it doesn't really matter, except for your NEEDS. If you are going to keep it 5 years or more then get the fastest you can... i7 ! ! ! ! ! dunno smiley

You can always add a second, inexpensive monitor to the i3.

I've had both - the i3 full speed advantages are not shown by those benchmarks.

I agree. Save more $$$ for a 27" i5.

Maybe a refurb.

I'm going for 27" i5 myself.

Probably more ultimate HP than I need, still not the speed that I want. I don't need to do any really heavy lifting, but computers still don't have that *instant* response for the more mundane things.

Maybe one day...

THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR INPUT!

Also I meant to type that the Core 2 is marginally (sometimes pretty noticeably) slower than the i3s.
I'm one of them graphic designer folk so I figure I can justify it. Right?

And the ~$200 that would have gotten me the Core i7 should go towards an iPhone, yes?
