RIP Old Faithful

After rearranging cables and hubs at my desk, I found I had room to plug in my first iPod, a 2nd Gen 10GB I have taken to calling Old Faithful. I haven't used it for ages, but have a certain sentimental attachment. Took it out of its box, plugged it in, and it started syncing. Then it made louder and louder grinding noises. Then, sniff!, they stopped.

Now it just gives me the disk drive icon.

Poor thing.

It's hardly worth the expense or trouble of replacing the hard drive, but I'm going to miss the little sucker.

I think the purchase of a new MacBook would be a fitting memorial, don't you?

I plugged in an old iPod and it fried my firewire port.

There's danger in them there old pieces of electronics.

Be careful out there.

That's why it pays to use a hub.

My 2nd Gen 20 gigger is doing fine. It even still has a decent battery life.

I do miss my original, the first, the one-and-only 1st gen 5 gig iPod.

My wife's 2G 10GB ipod is still humming along nicely - did just replace the battery with a new, high capacity one though. She listens to it almost everyday at work. One of the best purchases I ever made for her.

i thought this thread was going to be an announcement that the guvment had decided to harness the steam from Yellowstone to help wean us off of our oil dependency.

Thankfully it was not.

Strength without compassion is brutality. Compassion without strength is weakness.

We must train our minds to desire what the situation demands.

My first gen 5gb iPod gets use every day and is still chugging along. Replaced the battery once w/OWC's kit and still get about 12 hrs per charge. I love my old stuff.
