Of note:

ABC is moving Grey's Anatomy to Thursday @ 9PM.

LOST will be back only for 7 episodes in the fall. . .then won't be back until January with back-to-back new episodes. . .that is a LONG wait. . . sad smiley

ABC
Cancelled:
'Commander-In-Chief,' 'The Evidence,' 'Freddie,' 'Hope & Faith,' 'In Justice,' 'Invasion,' 'Less Than Perfect,' 'Miracle Workers,' 'Sons & Daughters,' 'Rodney'

NBC
Cancelled:
'Conviction,' 'E-Ring,' 'Four Kings,' 'Heist,' 'Joey,' 'Surface,' 'Teachers,' 'The West Wing,' 'Will & Grace'

New ABC shows:

•Dramas. In addition to Degrees, ABC has Brothers & Sisters, a family soap starring Ally McBeal's Calista Flockhart and Rachel Griffiths (Six Feet Under); Men in Trees, starring Anne Heche as a shrink who moves to Alaska, where she's surrounded by eligible men; The Traveler, a thriller about two grad students framed as terrorists in a national security emergency; Ugly Betty, about a homely girl hired at a fashion magazine; The Nine, about another group of strangers — freed bank-robbery hostages — from Without a Trace creator Hank Steinberg; and Day Break, an action thriller starring Taye Diggs as a cop on the lam who is framed for murder.

•Comedies.Let's Rob ... stars Donal Logue as leader of a group of blue-collar guys who try to rob Mick Jagger, who will occasionally appear; Big Day, a series built entirely around a young couple's wedding day; Notes from the Underbelly, centering on expectant parents; In Case of Emergency, with four high school pals who unexpectedly reunite as each faces a crossroads; and Help Me Help You, starring Cheers' Ted Danson as a group-therapy shrink.

I think the other networks will announce their schedules soon.

That's all!

Yep, I heard about this too. ABC seemingly listened to the complaints about "Lost" being too often interrupted with reruns-- their conclusion was to either show it in small "blocks" of uninterrupted new episodes (interspersed with "blocks" of reruns), or to do as they're doing and show it in a row of all new episodes, then interrupted by a long break, and then another row of all new episodes. (Problem again is that their season is only 23 episodes, and the full season goes from September to May...)

"Commander in Chief" being cancelled, my mum will be bummed about that.

Notice how all the "Lost" knockoffs have gotten canned... boy, that trend ended quick! If only all the reality shows would go out the same way.

I read someplace that Lost was going to take a "block" approach to the upcoming season. They would air new episodes in blocks of 7 or 8 and then run a few weeks of reruns in between each block.

This beats 1 new ep, 3 reruns, 2 new eps, 1 rerun etc.

Of course, I would rather they start in Sept. or Feb and run straight through and then use Lost's timeslot for another show but we all know that won't happen.

I Will be sad to see E-Ring and CinC go. Both were pretty good in my opinion.

They are going for lowest common denominator and cheapest to produce, as usuall. Hey, if production costs are cut in half, and ad revenue is down only 1/4, they are ahead.

That is the FOX recipe for success. That and musical timeslots. It works so well for them.

Sorry DM. Great minds...

Edit: the problem with their starting "Lost" later, and ending it earlier (along the lines of 24), is that of course then they don't get the full coverage of the season, and lose the advertising revenue.

The LOST season being 23 episodes is normal. Most seasons are in the 19-24 episode range.

I personally like the SciFi network's trend of showing half the season uninterupted, then X months off, then the rest of the season.

These shows that air 6 episodes then a break are likely because they aren't sure enough about the future of the show, and they only order a portion of a season at a whack. Less money down the toilet when a crappy show tanks.

I am also sorry to see E-ring go. IHMO, it's a better show than the Unit. But the Unit has a strong lead in from NCIS, which is an awesome show!

Racer X, right, but... of course the networks want as much viewership as they can get, and of course interspersing new episodes randomly with old ones encourages that...

Personally, I agree, I would prefer episodes going straight, no interruption. I'm REALLY looking forward to the new season of The 4400 partially for this reason -- 13 brand new episodes, no interruptions. This is really how they should do these shows-- make "mini-seasons".

I like the NCIS/The Unit block.

I also will really, really miss E-ring (I had to bring that up twice) I have loved Kelly Rutherford since she was Dixie Cousins on "The Adventures of Brisco County" with Bruce Campbell. I "think" that was before she was on Melrose Place.

Glad to see NBC didn't cancel Scrubs like it has threatened to. The only good thing is that I heard if NBC drops Scrubs, ABC would pick it up in a heartbeat.

"Fall" for Lost will probably not mean the traditional September fall TV season start, but will most likely mean October and November, 7-8 episodes, for the November ratings sweeps, then back in January for another 7-8 eps to get it through the February sweeps, then wrap up with 8 episodes or so starting in April to get them through the May sweeps.

Why don't they just run Lost twice back to back, 23 episodes x
2 comes up to 46 weeks. That would make me a much happier
camper. I would watch both runs and I'd still buy the DVDs
when they come out.

PS: My wife is going to be ticked about Invasion getting
cancelled, I never liked it myself.

Sam3, yep, that's what I figured-- and which I think most fans would be reasonably happy with, but which the network execs are NOT happy about...

Edit: Grateful, they'd never do that. They want you to buy the DVD's, and showing the eps in a predetermined order discourages you from doing that... to some extent it seems they don't want you to know what will be on, when.

Racer X, Did you catch Kelly in a show called "Homefront" in
the early 90's she's a knockout? I DVR the reruns on
AmericanLife TV Network. There used to be a better fansite
out there but I can't find it.

WOW! I can't beleive they are bringing Boston Legal and The Loop back. Too bad about Conviction. I was getting into it. I saw where Jeffery Tambor (plays the dad on Arrested Development) is getting a show. I wonder if this means AD isn't going to make a new home on Showtime and the show really is as yesterday as an iBook.

The Loop vs The Office. That is a nice match up. The Office is wittier, and better written. The Loop is fast paced and uses lots of tired sexual double entendres. The Loop probably wins.

The didn't cancel it, but it's not on the Fall sched. either. Right now it's in "backup" position, so I'd say it's still in a tentative position. The show is getting a little long in the tooth, but better than most of the new comedies, so it lives.
