I used to toss the coasters when Popcorn said "error in verification" figuring the DVD would not play. However, I have found they play just fine even when I get that error message.

I don't toss them anymore...I play them and enjoy the movie. Don't know what is happening...it copies the movie fine but sometimes can't verify. I don't know the intricacies of the software verifying.

The same is often true with Toast verification. I'd say it's OK to keep a movie disc that failed verification, but if the disc in question is data -- a backup disc, say -- better to be sure and burn a new one.

I'm trying to back up my copy of The Penguins Whacked-Out
Holiday DVD, I bought the 2 pack where it was separate from
the Madagascar movie. MTR found bad sectors. I've trying
burning it 4 different ways. With and without the ARccOS
thingy I believe it was. Anyway none will play. It's the
first of the few I've tried to back-up. Most of my DVD's
don't see enough handling to need backing up but I'd like to
make one of this one. The last one I made played for exactly
27 secs, stopped and crashed DVD Player.

When I get the "bad sector" window duping on a PC I got to my MAC...Mac the ripper and copy to a Maxtor HD (formatted in Fat32 60+Gig partition) That seems to work for me.

The record companies put artifacts in the tracks but MTR copied to a HD seems to work for me.

(I'm playing on a standalone DVD player and not my computer)
