Does Photoshop Elements do sophisticated web stuff?

So hey gang. Sorry for the long absence but I've been knee deep in MFA thesis and client work. Speaking of client work...

I have a client who I'm phasing out of doing menial tasks for them. They have one particular task that involves images and *shudder* an image map that needs updating during their prime seasons. Can they do this in Photoshop Elements or is this something that I'll have to do for them? I don't mind doing it, because hey, it's a little bit of money after all the other income loss from them. But, I just want to make sure it's possible for them with Elements.

What are your experiences? Thanks so much, Mac Gang.

Oh, "image maps" are "sophisticated" now?
Let me see if I can find my copy of Pagemill...

Post on the Adobe Elements forum. The author of the Missing Manual for Elements posts there regularly and should be able to answer this question.

I would have guessed that an image map would be the purview of something like Dreamweaver or other WYSIWYG HTML editor. Or maybe Photoshop can do it and so you're wondering if PSE can, too? There are probably quick-and-dirty free web utilities for this sort of thing as well.

Edit: Still can't answer your question but just now realized you may be thinking more about what Fireworks can do. Elements can do some of that but it's really more of a knocked-down Photoshop (no CMYK, no built-in Actions and so on.)

"Or maybe Photoshop can do it"

Exactly. PSE contains a stripped down version of ImageReady; The full Photoshop version will do image maps, but Elements won't. Yes, Dreamweaver and other web design programs can do it too.
