It took a major dump to about $294 when after-hours trading was unhalted. It's coming back but will probably open tomorrow much lower than it closed today.

Steve Jobs just took a metaphorical 'dump' on RIM. He basically said they're done.

Next he's crapping on Android...talking about how App Devs need to take into account 100+ different versions of Android vs. iOS where there are two different versions to deal with - the old version and the current version.

Some of the highlight numbers include 14.1 million iPhones sold (up 91 percent over Q4 last year), 3.89 million Macs (up 27 percent), 9.05 million iPods (down 11 percent), and 4.19 million iPads. It all added up to an all-time record for Apple of $20.34 billion in revenue for a net profit of $4.31 billion.

So, um, what cause the $20 price drop? You'd think that people would want to buy stock in a company that just trounced analysts admittedly ambitious estimates, no? It was all good news as best I could tell. The only thing going down was iPod sales, but that is to be expected.

Um, he didn't mention iPad sales to VerizonWireless? If not, analysts and speculators might think that means no iPhone on VZW for a while at least. So, as they say, buy on speculation, sell on (presumed) fact....

Stocks are funny that way. I suppose it's really the people who buy and sell them that are funny. It's not about the actual profits, but how it compares to expectations. The stock price already was showing a lot of positive expectations.

In addition to lower iPod and iPad sales, gross margins were down. So since not everything was miraculously positive, the earnings didn't meet (overly inflated) expectations.

Could be a buying opportunity.
