Someone sent me a photo I requested and, when I got the email, there was no attachment showing. Then I looked at the size of the email and it was 4.4mb so I knew it was there. When I clicked on the triangle in the header for attachments, it didn't show up. Nor did it show up when I clicked on the Save drop down.

So, I finally went to File>Save Attachments and it showed up there. What would cause this? It's a JPEG file and I don't see anything unusual about it. I can't remember having this occur before.

Just looking for some insight.

This happens sometimes to me as well. If you suspect that there is an attachment (you see the paperclip icon in the message list under the Attachments heading), select the message, then go to View pulldown menu, Message sub-menu, and choose Best Alternative. That should force the attachment to show up in the message.

This hasn't happened to me lately and I think that I fixed it, but can't remember how. If you do a Google search, you'll find lots of discussion about this problem in various forums.
