One more Trick or Treat story!

There was a thread last evening about Trick or Treaters and candy and stuff, and I posted that I was going to have to take my chances and see how honest the kids in my neighborhood are. I left out a basket of candy with a note to take some but to also please leave something for the next ghouls to come by. Well...

As far as Louie and I could tell, there was only one group - or at least only one group that we heard. When the basket was put out last evening, it had about half Almond Joy fun size bars and half small Reese's peanut butter cups. When my friend brought in the basket this morning, she started laughing and said "We didn't put out any Snickers bars!" Someone had made an even swap between Snickers fun size and all but two of the Reeses.

I sure do like where I live. smiling smiley

Not knowing who put those Snickers bars in the basket, I wouldn't touch those Snickers bars if I were you. They should go straight in the trash unless you REALLY REALLY like where you live and willing to bet your health on it.

To my knowledge (according to some articles a few years ago..) there has never really been a SINGLE documented case of "tampered with" candy, razor blades in apples, etc, in the U.S. in at least 40 years. Not one.

Not saying that some prudence isn't in order, but it's interesting how stark raving paranoid we have gotten about halloween candy, when the other 364 days of the year, there "no problem".

Restraining yourself from eating a random piece of candy found (pretty much) on the street is being stark raving paranoid? I disagree. Did the person who left the candy have a bad cold? Children are rife with germs. If someone in the office has a bowl of free (wrapped) candies on his/her desk. But this person had a bad cold w/coughing and sneezing within arms reach of the bowl. I wouldn't touch any of that free candy in the bowl. Are you insane?

Buzzkill? Yeah. Sorry for trampling on the OP's cute story.

Did the person who last opened that door have hepatitis? Ebola? The Flu? You don't know... it would be insane to touch that doorknob!

Use a little hand sanitizer, and lighten up. :-)

A lovely story, and good for your neighborhood. I'm amazed the squirrels didn't come and clean up the snickers bars... if I had left a bowl of candy out all night the deer and squirrels would have cleaned it all up for me. I hope Louie did OK with the spookies. I sat outside handing out candy in the cold and wind so our Chihuahuas would not have to bark themselves crazy.

We had a neighbor comment that she was running out of candy last year... and two teenage boys said "here" and dumped some of their bags into her candy bowl. (Yes, may have had to do with the fact that this attractive single Mom was wearing a rather low cut kitty cat outfit, or that she's a teacher in the high school. Or both ! big grin smiley

Maybe AlphaDog should just offer the Snickers on the Free Item Monday thread with full disclosure. I was half expecting to see candy offered there today.

No one is INGESTING "public door knobs, writing surfaces, pens, grocery check out conveyor belts, keyboards, ATM's, etc." Do you make it a habit to use a store pen to sign a credit card receipt and then procede to chew on the cap? That's disgusting. Lighten up!

I don't get trick-or-treaters here. Country road / long driveway. Not too many kids any more.
So I buy a 10 dollar bag and give to my sister.
She lives about two miles away in a housing developement where they drop kids off by the van full - she's usually out in an hour.

I've stopped by to hand out candy and see some trick-or-treaters in years past, but now I'm usually too busy to be bothered.

Repeat "the sky is falling" enough times, and the media will report it, people will believe and even some Health inspector will come up with an absurd statistic that is impossible.

If this is all true---how has mankind lived so long?

I find it ironic that Parent's teach their kids to "Not take candy from strangers", but on Halloween the kids do it with the parent's looking???

here is one.

last night 8:30, door bell rings, wife answers. I was checking email forum. Wife gives out candy and comes back shaking her head and tells me there was a teenager girl, in BIKINI (of course, wearing some costume or robe on her back, but the front was open). And yes, she was in Bikini, and a little overweight from what wife told me.

I am glad I didn't see THAT!

I don't recall the OP saying that the candy bars were unwrapped...
Do you eat the wrapper too? You're ingesting the wrapper?
Now we're back to the odds of the candy being tampered with, INSIDE The wrapper, unless you lick the wrapper as you unwrap it.


A little prudence? Sure... always wise.

Still not seeing any reason for AlphaDog not to snack on snickers.. and share with Louie, of course!

Years ago, our dog ate a Costco size box of Hershey Bars while we were out of the house, first clue was the dog wasn't interested in dinner that night. The dog survived, but was pooping foil wrappers for a few days.

A. I'm dying anyway, so maybe eating poisoned Snickers' bars would be a good thing.

B. If I'm going to get into the paranoia, I better throw out all of the candy bars in the basket that look identical to the ones I put in there. I'm sure it's possible somebody traded all of those for poisoned ones, too.

If you saw a piece of wrapped candy laying on the street would you pick it up and eat it? I mean, seriously? I'm not talking about cyanide laced pixie sticks. It's a sealed/wrapped bite size snickers bar just laying on the sidewalk. You would pick it up and eat it? Are you THAT hungry? No one else sees anything wrong with it? What if it was your child who picked up a sealed bite size snickers bar off the street and wanted to eat it? You would tell your child. GO AHEAD! Why not?

Yeah... and i don't recall mentioning anything about malicious death, poisoning, and razor blades in my original post but you felt the need to escalate my original post into a stark raving paranoia thread. I just said.. risking your health (not LIFE). It could be something as innocent as germs from a sick child. Why risk eating a piece of unknown wrapped candy? It's not like anyone here is starving. Do you not have tons of other things to eat in the house? You just must must MUST eat that particular Snickers bar? LOL

Ohyeah... lighten up. And you too KenSP!
