Any AC/DC fans here? What about the Iron Man II soundtrack?
Posted by: deckeda
Date: November 01, 2010 01:07PM
Me neither, really, but sometimes it's a guilty pleasure. I just read that the Iron Man II soundtrack is a compilation (some hits, some obscure) — but it's all AC/DC. I've also read that the Who Made Who album (soundtrack to Stephen King's Maximum Overdrive movie) would be another to consider.

I understand the band would prefer fans just buy all their albums but I ain't that much of a fan.

Description yanked from the Web:
Quote
There are 20 songs in Iron Man 2, but only two of the songs from the movie are on the soundtrack album. … While the soundtrack album that they released for the movie has 15 songs from AC/DC on it, only two of these songs – Shoot to Thrill and Highway to Hell – are actually in the movie. The soundtrack album completely skips the 18 other songs that are in the movie.

For someone who doesn't already have any of their other releases, is this one a decent purchase?

1. Shoot to Thrill
2. Rock 'N' Roll Damnation
3. Guns for Hire
4. Cold Hearted Man
5. Back in Black
6. Thunderstruck
7. If You Want Blood (You've Got It)
8. Evil Walks
9. T.N.T.
10. Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be
11. Have a Drink on Me
12. The Razor's Edge
13. Let There Be Rock
14. War Machine
15. Highway to Hell

AC/DC has made pretty much the same song over and over for the last ~35 years.
And thank God for that.

Naturally, I awaited your response most of all on this topic. Because I was really expecting this:

I, for one, would prefer to buy all the remastered AC/DC albums that came out about 8 or so years ago (I did, bought like 12-14 of them, I think that was my last physical CD purchases). The compilation Iron Man 2 soundtrack offers nothing to me. But if you've not got an extensive AC/DC collection, go for it.

As for the Maximum Overdrive soundtrack:

You're going to have a hard time finding the Maximum Overdrive soundtrack. I had it back when the movie came out, on cassette. However this may help: Most of the tracks were released on 2 albums.

Fly on the Wall 1985

Fly on the Wall is the tenth studio album by Australian hard rock band AC/DC, originally released on 28 June 1985. The band's second and last self-produced album, it was also the first AC/DC album not to include drummer Phil Rudd, who was replaced by Simon Wright. Like their previous album, Flick of the Switch, Angus and Malcolm Young chose to produce in order to capture the rawness and simplicity of their early works[2] in a time when pop-oriented glam metal became popular.

The album was not well received by critics and only sold one million copies upon its release, as opposed to the success of their previous albums, Back in Black and For Those About to Rock We Salute You.[3] The singles "Shake Your Foundations" and "Sink the Pink", however, are chosen as standouts from the album,[1][4][5] and both songs were included in the band's soundtrack to Stephen King's film Maximum Overdrive titled Who Made Who. A video featuring the band performing five of the album's songs was also released in the summer of 1985. The album was re-released in 2003 as part of the AC/DC Remasters series.

Tracks:

1. "Fly on the Wall" – 3:43
2. "Shake Your Foundations" – 4:10
3. "First Blood" – 3:40
4. "Danger" – 4:22
5. "Sink the Pink" – 4:14
6. "Playing With Girls" – 3:44
7. "Stand Up" – 3:53
8. "Hell or High Water" – 4:31
9. "Back in Business" – 4:22
10. "Send for the Man" – 3:26

Who Made Who 1986

Who Made Who is a hard rock album by Australian band AC/DC, released in 1986 as the soundtrack to the Stephen King movie Maximum Overdrive. King would allude to the album's title song in the 1990 revised and expanded edition of his novel The Stand, where a survivor of the novel's flu pandemic changes the lyrics to "Who Made Flu." Three tracks on the album — "Who Made Who" and the instrumentals "D.T." and "Chase the Ace" — were newly written and recorded by AC/DC. The rest were taken from the band's previous albums. Only one song, "Ride On," is from the Bon Scott era; the others all feature Brian Johnson. The album has sold 5 million copies in the USA. The album reached #11 in the UK and #33 in the US.

Along with the album, the band released a video tape which contained music videos for the songs "Who Made Who", "You Shook Me All Night Long", "Shake Your Foundations", "Hells Bells", and footage from a live performance of "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)" which was filmed in Detroit in 1983. The album was re-released in 2003 as part of the AC/DC Remasters series.

Tracks:

1. "Who Made Who" – 3:26
2. "You Shook Me All Night Long" – 3:30
3. "D.T." (A. Young, M. Young) – 2:53
4. "Sink the Pink" – 4:13
5. "Ride On" (Bon Scott, Young, Young) – 5:51
6. "Hells Bells" – 5:12
7. "Shake Your Foundations" – 4:10 (CD) 3:53 (vinyl)
8. "Chase the Ace" (Young, Young) – 3:01
9. "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)" – 5:53

Good Luck!

Ever heard the Nashville 1977 WEA Convention show?

Also known as "BLUES, BOOZE N' TATTOOS", it's recorded as a showcase for (the former) Warner, Elektra, Atlantic employees.
These folks were NOT expecting AC/DC on this day (8.8.78). It's FM-radio sourced, and it's a monster set.

Bon walks out on stage and screams "QUIET, AREN'T YA?!" at the mingling employees, and you can actually hear them jump & gasp.
They then run over them with a wall of guitars for 45 minutes.

Pretty standard AC/DC set from this period - Live Wire, Problem Child, Sin City, etc.

AC/DC, the first concert I ever attended. in the old Boston Garden, when I was around 13. I'm still surprised my parents let me go with a friend; in fact, I'm shocked.

the balcony in the Garden was moving up and down, from the people stomping their feet and jumping. it was insane, it almost made me seasick.

High on a threshold yearning to sing
Down with the dancers having one last fling

Back in Black is their best album (IMO). Great songs and great production. Mutt Lang did an awesome job on that one... The sound is incredible. It's also one of the top selling albums of all time. Over 21 million sold.

Next would be:

If You Want Blood You've Got It
Highway to Hell
Powerage

Decay- Thanks for the links!!!

I was never an AC/DC fan when they were current.

But after seeing Iron Man, I started checking them out, and like a lot of their stuff.

I'll look for the re-mastered CDs.

I completely disagree with that. AC/DC has always made sure to change those 3 chords for each song.

That cracked me up.

The Taoist Zhuangzi said, "Good order results spontaneously when things are let alone".
The sociologist, and historian, Adam Ferguson described the phenomenon of spontaneous order in society as the "result of human action, but not the execution of any human design".
