Data of 26.5 Million Veterans Stolen from Bureaucrat!

'WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Personal information on 26.5 million veterans was stolen from the home of a data analyst in what appears to have been a random burglary, Veterans Affairs Secretary Jim Nicholson said Monday.
The computer records include names, Social Security numbers and dates of birth, Nicholson said. The Department of Veterans Affairs disclosed the theft Monday and said it has seen no indication that the information has been misused.
The missing data does not include health records or financial information, the department said. It does include some disability ratings and data on some veterans' spouses.' - [cnn.worldnews.printthis.clickability.com]

Ha Ha.

I was in the Army long before 1975. The cutoff date in the article. Even before they had computers.

Those were the days.

It's another vote-harvesting scheme by some leftist stooge.

Once again, another reason to trust the government with private data.

Why isn't this info encrypted so that it's useless outside of the VA's own network?

I say "lynch him!"

The Taoist Zhuangzi said, "Good order results spontaneously when things are let alone".
The sociologist, and historian, Adam Ferguson described the phenomenon of spontaneous order in society as the "result of human action, but not the execution of any human design".

I only skimmed the article, but I didn't see if they said where the home was located. I'm also curious what the laws are about such data where the home is. In Washington, if such data was not encrypted the owner would be forced to shell out, in this case, tens of millions of dollars.
