recommend a battery stat tool for iPhone? side note: Radio Shack deal

it seems like my battery is running on 1/2 alot
depleting very quickly from full charge.

3GS, only 1 year old since October

there are so many battery apps out there.. any recommendations?
e.g. to see how much this older battery holds a charge?

side note:
I visited the radio shack and inquired about the trade in program
for an iPhone 4. Im generally satisfied with ATT but I want to
grandfather in my unlimited data plan. they said would have to
call into ATT to see if this is possible. $25 for a new iPhone is not
bad, considering I would have continued with ATT service anyhow.

I can hold out until iPhone 5. but my battery issue is nudging me
towards a new phone. Can I get a battery replacement under applecare? (i got the extension for 2 years coverage)

the only thing i lust after on iPhone4 is the HD video and high res photo snaps.

your opinions and comments are welcome
thanks

Have you restarted your phone? Are you running iOS 4? It's possible you have a runaway app that is draining the battery. It happened to me early in the iOS 4 days with my iPhone 4. I usually only use 10-20% of my battery in the work day, but suddenly my phone was dead before the end of the day. Never figured out what exactly was causing it, but a reboot fixed it.

My iPhone 4 battery was draining quickly until I learned how to shut down background applications.

Assuming you are using iOS 4. As others have noted, some apps don't play well in the background unless they have been rewritten for iOS 4.

For instance, on my golf vacation in September, Golfshot or Airvue, can't remember anymore, when put into the background, would still access the GPS and boy does that drain your battery fast.

Ideally, the app should "be asleep" until called into action. Since both have been update neither draw any power when in the background.

I'm guessing, as the noted above, you have an app that isn't working correctly under iOS 4.

Restarting your iPhone doesn't kill any apps. If you restart, the same apps in the shelf (double click your home button) will still be there.

You need to manually kill them and see if you can whittle down the culprit, which I'm guessing will be either a GPS related app or some app like iHeartradio which is accessing your 3G or wifi connection (iheartradio has been updated).

Oh, make sure you have updated all your apps!
