Need help ASAP with song file format

Wondering if anyone can shed some light on a problem I'm having. My wife is a school teacher and one of her students put together a couple of music files as a part of his final project for the year. He e-mailed them to us as an attachment. He uses Windows, but said a friend of his did them (not sure what that means) on a Mac, he thought the files came out of iTunes. Anyway, nothing I have seems to be able to do anything with the format.

Both songs have the extension .cda

Any thoughts?

Thanks

CElliott

The kids just e-mailed us back and said he thinks it was done on LogicPro. Does that fit the extension information. I can't afford it at just under $1000.00 and don't know anything about it really. Can music put together in it be exported into some standard format such as aiff or mp3?

Are these files large enough to actually be music files? It sounds like you might need to burn them to a CD to get it to work.

Thanks for the input. As it turns out a .cda files appears to be only a marker or shortcut on a CD pointing to the actual music file elsewhere on the CD. I thought it was funny that the files were only 4K each. It appears that the kid only copied the cda file rather than the music file and sent it to me.

That's the best reasoning I can come up with after looking at a couple of sites including the link sent to me by ka above. So, mike, you are correct in your question- they aren't music files at all.

Thanks for the info.

Good, I've never dealt with CDA, but it sounded like they were some kind of a reference or project file.
