With all the issues going on with built in iPhone clock and alarm, I thought I'd mention how some of the clocks I have function.
1) A cool looking clock is Flip Time. [

Unfortunately, if the clock is in the background, the alarm doesn't go off. It does work if the phone is asleep or locked and it does allow you to pick a song from your iPod to wake you up, though.
2) Nightstand [
itunes.apple.com]
Among other things, Nighstand shows the weather, can be dimmed, shaken to be used as a flashlight and will randomly play selected songs from your collection as an alarm.
Unfortunately, for the alarm to work with your music, Nightstand must be in foreground, but, if you choose the "background alarms" preference, seen below,
Nightstand's alarm function will work, even if another app is in the foreground, actively running. Unfortunately, background alarm only allows you to pick from four sounds.
3. Rise Alarm [
itunes.apple.com] has a retro look and its alarm works whether the app is running in the foreground or even running at all. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the ability to play tunes from your iPod.
