Firewire compactflash card reader for my eMac
Posted by: George3

I am trying to find a firewire card reader for downloading photo files to my eMac. I have never used the firewire ports and as far as I can tell they have four pins. The firewire readers I have seen use six pins. Any ideas?

I have an old Microtech FW card reader, I cannot find OSX drivers for it. The company seems to have gone out of business or was bought out. I haven't seen one recently. You may see one on eBay.

I have that one too. Except it now has the old hard 2GB drive from my iPod Mini in it.

Bought the card reader for a few dollars from Freegeek in Portland.

I still use those Microtech readers. They work fine on my Macs, although on windows machines I typically have to unplug the reader after ejecting each card for it to see the next card

I bought a couple of those purple Lexar readers from Surplus Computer a few years ago when
they were clearing them out for $10. I still have one in service and one in reserve,

They now have what I believe was the next generation replacement for the purple reader
available for $12.99 with free shipping

Been using this Delkin for 8 years. Always works with no drivers in OS X, dunno about OS9 if that's what your eMac is running. [www.amazon.com]

Chose that one because the cable is detachable (standard 6-pin FW 400 port on back) in case it ever fails.

Thank you again. I am returning an unused Digital Concepts reader to BlueNook because I read very bad reviews in Amazon, and I ordered a purple Lexar. If it does not work, I'll follow the other suggestions.
