Just back from my Meniere's Specialist, had an Intratympanic Steroid Injection

This was something that was pretty experimental back in '95 when I had my Endolymphatic Shunt put in
but is a fairly common treatment now. It doesn't always work, like any medical procedure, but I figure it's
better than the next option which is replacement of the shunt. I asked if we may be looking at that down
the road if it was going to be as an involved surgery as before, 4.5 hours the first time, he said no
depending on how much bony growth has closed up the opening where all the drilling was done, it could
take as little as 90 minutes with one night in the hospital. He said it's not uncommon for the shunt to
become clogged or bony growth to interfere with the original shunt. Anyway I'm hoping this helps, he
said it could take a week for the steroid to actually do it's thing inside my ear. It was a very uncomfortable
procedure, quite a bit of pain and pressure, a really creepy feeling. The numbing agent placed on the
eardrum was more painful than the actual piercing of the eardrum.

Wow, we really talk about anything and everything here!

Hope you start to feel better and more normal. That procedure really doesn't sound pleasant.

I once worked for someone who got injections in his EYEBALLS.

I just cringe at the thought of that.

Best wishes. I know someone that had Meniere's or something very closely related. He could be walking along and all of a sudden just about fall over like someone pulled the rug out from under. That was 22 years ago. He got a job in a different area that was not so physical and got a little better. I stopped hearing from him about 17 years ago so I can not say how it goes long term.

My wife was with me in the room, she couldn't watch. My Ambiance App on my Touch is my best friend
at night while trying to go to sleep, it was .99 and worth every penny.

Grateful -

i had this procedure done at the Shea Clinic in Memphis in '96. for me the beneficial effects were practically overnight. gave me my life back for a while. had to repeat it about 4 months later as it didn't completely last but it was well worth it. gradually, the vertigo aspects of my menieres has burned out - along with a good bit of hearing in my left ear.

hope you have some good results from this.

That's good news Graylocks. So far I've got an increase in vertigo, I'm walking off track and walking into
doorways and such but they said that was to be expected. If I don't see any positive results at all I might
consider the surgery, it helped for almost 15 years with the vertigo the first time but I hope I don't have to.
I'll never forget what I went through after the surgery.

I too have lost over half the hearing in my right ear at many test frequency's. The ringing in the right ear
has been almost unbearable lately, normally I can tone it out if you know what I mean but not lately.
