OT: Dyson vacuum followup. Thanks folks.

I posted an earlier thread asking for opinions on Dyson vacuums: [forums.macresource.com]

Just wanted to thank all those that posted for their opinions and advice. I went ahead and bought one today rather than trying to find one online. I know I probably would've saved a few bucks, but I wanted the instant gratification. Costco had the DC14 Full Kit for $469. I could've gotten it a little cheaper at Best Buy, but some of the online info. on these units stated some fragility of the plastics so I figure the Costco Return Policy may be a good extra investment.

Tested it out on the living room carpet. It's quieter than my previous vacuum. Seems fairly easy to push. Seems to pick up well. We'll see if the "doesn't lose suction" hype is worth it.

Each situation can be different. You can't consider the opinions in a VACUUM.

Which reminds me that Microsoft used to make a vacuum but discontinued it because it was their only product that didn't suck.

what effin' genius decided bagless was a good thing? i've never gotten as dirty as i do when emptying the bagless vacuum.

the old Kirby (bagged) is heavier, but overall cleaner to operate.

can we please have our bagged vacuums back?

Get an Oreck. They still use bags.
You can also pick up a bowling ball with it.

I can pick up a bowling ball with my hands, why would I want to use a vacuum to do that? It's like using wrench to turn a wrench to turn a bolt.

Anyway, bags are ok, but I like being able to see when the chamber is filling up. Sort of motivates me to vacuum more often seeing how much junk gets sucked up after only a few days since the last time around. Also, not having to buy new bags all the time does save money in the long run.

About half of the vacuums in the Consumer reports buying guide have bags, so it's not like you have to look very hard if you want a vacuum with a bag.

dyson is in costco summer passport booklet for another $50-$75 off [or something like that...] in the next couple of months. ours still sucks incredibly well, and the wife and housekeeper have figured out some nifty trick of emptying the thing w/o getting messy anymore... though I gotta admit the first couple of times they tried made for great live comedy. enjoy your DC14.

Sometimes it is what it is...
and then there's times when it's really better.

I love the Oreck we bought at Christmas Time... I agree, I think our Hepa Bags work better than our bag-less Eurika... However, to each their own... My friend has a Dyson and loves the thing... Seems a little big to me but it works good.

Either way, congratulations... and enjoy your sucky decision (that's a joke...)

I remember my folks first Hoover vacuum.

It had a built-in bag. The back was removed, the vac turned upside down over a container, and a sliding handle was pulled down several times to shake the dirt out.

Then there was the Rainbow. Reasonably powerful, no dirt or dust being blown back into the air. But the muddy mess in the water reservoir... UGH!

I'll never do either again. Bags are the one, true way.

With the Dyson being bagless you just stick that part in the trash, pull the lever and it dumps out with no mess. Nearly 3 years with ours in a 2 long haired shedding dog house and no loss of suction detected yet.

You must be very lucky. There was a decided loss of suction in my household after the wedding.
