This unfortuantely is getting a lot of press----but why in the world woud they not put out the fire---If they had time to snap the pictures and take it outside (and the plug is still plugged in?)-they could have put out the fire with something--I smell more than smoke--smells fishy to me---we'll see

It doesn't seem real that you would have a fire in a computer. We all could have died, and the house could have burned down.

Why is it not "real" for a consumer electronic item to catch fire? Maybe not common, but definately real.

And I certainly hope that the other end of that power cord was not plugged in! But I agree that the smart thing to do is grab the fire extinguisher. Not the friggin' camera. Of course yor house is going to burn down if you're that stupid.

why would anyone ever let their kid leave a loaded laptop unattended on the carpet?

they probably spilled something inside it?

43 fires in the last 5 years? vs 43 million laptops made?

You know, I use my iBook on my lap. Warm, but not hot by any stretch. (Now, my AlBook, THAT baby you could make grilled cheese with. HOT.)

If my legs haven't burned to a crisp...

The fire looks to originate from near the right side of the trackpad-I wonder why the are blaming the battery--it could have been something else shorting out.
I am still mystified-If I were to quickly take my laptop outside, I would not unplug the power adapter at the wall--I would take it out at the laptop--or maybe just not take the time to unplug it ay all.

Sounds like a good plan to get a new macbook out of apple. Maybe I should try that and then take some pictures as proof. It is odd that it is still plugged in. Maybe thats because the battery was complety dead and they wanted it to look like it was running when the fire happened. Anyway, I'm off to the store to buy some lighter fluid.
