$50 store credit 30 GB iPod update - Great service!

Bottom line:

1. I learned that you cannot use both the educational discount and the $50 discount with the same order.

2. Guy who took phone order made a mistake with the engraving, I called Apple about it, they are giving a free $39 leather case, and I have the choice of sending the iPod back.

I've been an Apple customer since 1986, and have to say, they have been very good to me over the years. This was one more example...

"they are giving a free $39 leather case"

It pays to have items with a 600% mark-up available when you need to smooth the PR.

Anyway, free is free, right? So you'll be sending it back for another, yes?

The engraving mistake was only an added space in a foreign word, and no parenthesis where I had asked. It's for my daughter, so she will make the call about keeping this one; it's probably okay.

jb, have you bought anything from Apple with those 600% markups?? Where do you get your stuff?

I love Apple, and their absurdly overpriced add-ons are usually the nicest available in any category, but are you suggesting that a PowerMac has the same % markup as $30 iPod socks or a $20 firewire cable? I don't buy my RAM from Apple either.

It's nice that they're throwing you a freebie when adequate customer service would only require replacing the unit, but if they were giving you a $$$ credit instead, I'd expect it to be about 5 bucks.

You're probably right about the markups, etc. I do not buy ANY accessories from Apple, including RAM.

My point being that the service has been good over the years, that's all, and this was another example. My post was an update on a post I made about the $50 store credit.

Apple sent me a new hard drive overnight FREE when mine failed. They also swapped out a 20th Anniversary Mac (which couldn't be repaired) for a brand-new (at the time) $3500 Pismo laptop. The TAM was 3 years old then.

Keep in mind that the TAMs were going for about $1200 on eBay at the time. I accepted their Pismo offer, and I've been using it for the past, what? 5 years now? Maybe 6 years? Cool.

Plus, I bought a different TAM used later, so now I've got both! Wooo hooooooo.

Apple service has worked pretty well for me. So far.
