No, first tell her that if she ever downloads anything like that again, she's on her own and only then save her from her stupidity.

Yes, Norton is the virus.

It does two things, one good, one bad.

It finds viruses from windows files - meaning it should be harder for your friend to retransmit a windows virus accidentally.

It also gives the Mac Lupus, detecting a non-existent problem and sometimes making a mess of things.

I vote to nuke and pave.

Norton's created more problems than they solved.

Just my opinion.

Norton hasn't made a useful, safe and needed product for the Mac since OS X rolled out. Norton Utilities in the OS 8/9 days were invaluable.

But it's a $160 value at no additional cost! That's really nice of Comcast...

Comcast has other nice things too--those Taylor Swift promos they run 5-6 times an hour. How many diabetic comas have THEY triggered so far?

Norton is the problem, not the solution.

Appzapper should remove it and all its pieces making nuke and repave unnecessary.

Norton was the go-to in my early days on the Mac OS (back when it was called System 7). As Racer X said, they haven't made anything worthwhile since the start of OS X -- in fact, if you look at the other forum most of us used to haunt, there's scores of horror stories from those early days about the damage caused by Norton.

Tell her to uninstall it (ditto recommendation of AppZapper by JEBB) as soon as humanly possible.

ClamXAV or nothing.

you can set Clam to monitor the downloads & documents folder; it won't bother with anything else.

Good advice from all of the above. Today's Norton causes more grief than good. It's always running, eating up CPU power unnecessarily, and you get no benefit.

Set up ClamX as suggested above after getting shed of the Norton crap and give her a stern lecture to ask you before installing. She has already proved bad judgement exists.
