Pulled the trigger...

27" i7 iMac refurb.

Replacing a mirror door G4.

Tax return!

I. Just. Can't. Wait.

Hoping for some unexpected upgrades (more memory maybe?) I always hear about with these refurbs. I didn't get a surprise on my last refurb.

memory is cheap, someone posted a deal for 8 gigs for $64 just the other day -- which would give you 12.

regardless, even the 4 gigs it comes with has to be 2X the amount in your MDD.

hope for the internal 2TB drive.

That it is, yes, that it is.

Now I need CS5 for under $500.

Here's the deal on 2 x 4 gig ram. Make sure it works on your machine - Rebate available through Amazon and Newegg for the same price: [www.newegg.com]
Got some of these and they work fine in my 24" iMac 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo.

It took a lot of pressure to get the wife to relent to this purchase, so everything from here on out will have to be piecemeal. I will have to use CS and 4gigs mem until I can save up the cash by taking my lunch into work each day.

So if it comes with 16gigs memory and CS5 installed, I won't be upset (I'm looking at you, Apple shipping department).

Hmmm... will CS run on 10.6?

Someone needs to confirm that...

It's fine, under Rosetta, according to this site:

I got CS4 EDU version for $300. It is the Design Premium. It is now $349 for CS5. base Design Standard is $199. I can get a special pricing deal for students/faculty of the University of Washington.

Standard edu cost is $299, and $449 for CS5.

I run CS thru Rosetta on 10.6. Usually OK, but sometimes it crashes while doing nothing loses prefs on restarts. I've taken to making a copy of the prefs file as a backup.

Not much farther up you can go from that machine, at least for an iMac. Congrats!

Rosetta is not installed by default, but you probably know that already.
