Space Shuttle Discovery final mission today

Today at 4:50pm EST Space Shuttle Discovery is scheduled to lift off on its final mission. Discovery is the oldest remaining shuttle in the fleet first flew in August 1984, today it makes one final flight into history.

Which? The end of the Shuttles, or continually flying the B-52s? Or both?

I'm inclined to say both. But they are separate discussions.

I'm actually amazed that the B-52s don't suffer metal fatigue after so long—a testament to good construction and maintenance, I guess.

I think not having the means to get our astronauts to orbit (and beyond) is a travesty.
