Speaking of potato-based dough goodness: Spudnuts, anyone?

Anyone remember (or still eat) Spudnuts? There is a Spudnuts shop in Charlottesville, VA, and it's like stepping into the 1950s when you enter the tiny store. A few tables, a counter, one choice of coffee, and amazing potato-based donuts. It's family-run business (and the ~10 year old works the counter on Saturdays), and I could eat those delicious donuts until I fall down from sugar overdose. The glazed ones remind me of Krispy Kreme, but even tastier. Mmmmm.

We have a Spudnut shop here in central Illinois, but I never get there anymore. I remember as a kid my dad stopping by there on his way home from 3rd shift (I'm now 55 and dad is long retired). Always warm when we got them. Wow, good memories.

Probably the tastiest raised donut I've ever tasted! Much better than Krispy Creme in my opinion.

I do prefer a good cake donut, though!

We have one here... still the same scuzzy interior. Heck, some of the patrons look like they've been there for 30+ years too. Ours is right next to our town's only "Gentleman's Club", so there's a steady flow of rather unique individuals in and out of it.

I'm sure I'm not the first to say this, but Spudnuts sounds more like an insult than the name of a shop: "Hey, Spudnuts, how ya doing?" tongue smiley
