Overheard in the GoDaddy boardroom:

"Hey guys - I've got it! Lets turn elephant killing into a promotional opportunity!"

That story seems awfully short. Perhaps they need to consult "The Full Story".

I'm not saying the guy is right. Just that there's a lot of things that seem totally wrong and offensive on the face of it.

Saw this the other day (A PETA link I think). I was gonna post it here knowing a bunch of people use GD for their service. Figured most would ignore it and not do anything about it. I'll never use them and if others jump ship, all the better. F that guy and GD.

His promo videos strike me as along a similar cocky attitude. The fact that it's a vacation video tells me he kills for fun. The issue of starving farmers tells me nothing about why they are farming where elephants are, which seems to fail Farming 101.

Making a character judgment from a photo may be wrong, but to me, he looks like the sort of guy who thinks killing a crop eating elephant is a good idea.

I use GoDaddy and am looking into moving about 50 domains... truth is I've been meaning to do it because the guy is not someone I care to support anymore with my business. This last move is just one of a long list.

Just a few facts, not skewed by the PETA lens...

An elephant "tag" costs the better part of $100,000, and it goes to maintaining the wildlife reserve and combatting poachers... only a very limited number are issued a year.

By law, the meat from the elephant MUST go to the locals. They follow the hunting party to "clean up" the carcass.

Think what you want about his behavior... but the elephant hunt part is not unusual in the least.

Yes, it's all over Twitter. A CEO with a commodity product w/ virtually no barrier to switching better watch his a$$.

I'm surprised this lowered people's opinions of GoDaddy at all. I already don't use their services because of my opinion of them.

It probably would have been less expensive to relocate the elephants. In which case the villagers would have their fields for food, and the elephant would continue to live - a win-win.

As far as the elephant tag goes, those trying to protect the elephants are against them as those collecting the money are often those doing the poaching.

Via Spearchuckers or dying of loneliness in a circus or zoo is so much more humane.
Not too many people have the stomach to watch a pig become bacon, either.
I don't. The spears in a cage thing is kinda gross. Quick, gross.

He still was into it for a cheap thrill, though.

Don't you think the part where the "clean-up crew" is wearing GoDaddy gear "unusual"?

I'm thinking he did more to feed people in Zimbabwe than their fine dictator has done in 25 years.

And he gave impoverished people spanking brand new hats!

And all you guys do is bitch!

Shooting the elephant isn't my cup of tea, but this isn't any worse than sending jobs overseas, hiring child labor, forcing people work unpaid overtime, or polluting wantonly because the third world country of choice allows it.

I know I know...once you relax standards why not go all the way, right?

Explains a lot about some societies.

Seriously? You do know that phrase is an epithet just shy of ni**er, don't you?

You don't hear it nearly as much as you used to, so I've leaving room for the possibility that some younger people may not be aware of that. Of course I have no idea how old you are, so maybe that doesn't apply.

I had never heard the term "spearchuckers" before. I wondered how it could be racist. I looked it up, I guess it only applies to Africans, which doesn't make any sense to me since many other races have chucked spears as well.

I betcha the ancestors of whomever coined that term, also chucked spears.
