can a powered usb hub be used to link two computers to one printer?

an emac and imac are the desktop machines. the printer is a hp 1220 laserjet. i want to get both computers to have access to the printer.

will a powered usb hub "switch" between computers and allow access to the printer?

i'm sure there are desiginated usb printer switchers but can i get the same results using the usb hub?

If they are networked and you are using OS X just go to the control preferences of the computer with the printer hooked to it and turn on Printer Sharing. Then on the other machine just add the printer as a new printer.

dennis r-the machines are not networked. i was hoping to use the usb hub for a similiar purpose. thoughts?

No, you can't connect two computers to a printer using a USB hub. You have to use a USB switch.

How about just running an ethernet cable between them. That is all the networking you should need. You wouldn't need a router or even internet through the cable.

You could get a USB-to-parallel cable and connect the second printer to the parallel port.
