Costco just started carrying Allegra in bulk so I am looking at it as Claritin cannot keep up with whatever is in the air at the moment. I am getting to the point of losing functionality in public without a tissue on my nose at all times. I prefer to use the non drowsy types of allergy meds. Anyone make a similar switch with good results?

.....varies by person but Claritin doesn't work for me at all....Zyrtec makes me too drowsy....Allegra is the only thing that works and when it gets really bad....it doesn't always work either.....won't hurt to try....


.....I'm waiting for the generic Allegra to come out so prices can go down.....

Yes..the efficacy of Clartin (and Clarinex) are the lowest of the OTC "non-sedating" antihistamines.

Zyrtec and Allegra have similar efficacy for most people with Zyrtec having slightly more sedating side effects for some people.

i'm fairly happy with zyrtec and the generic is quite cheap.

I use Claritin daily, and it helps with some things, but many days it does not help at all with sneezing and runny nose.

I haven't tried Allegra, but I've tried Zyrtec and prescription Xyzal. They were no better than Claritin, for me.

The things that have helped me deal with the very irritated, sneezy days are prescription nasal sprays. Both Veramyst and Nasonex have helped me a lot.

Cheap, non-prescription helpers for me include things that rinse out the nasal cavities, like [www.webmd.com]

I resisted that for a long time because it seemed gross and uncomfortable, but "nasal irrigation" has really helped.

Allegra is my choice - non-drowsy and works better than claritin.

Another vote for allegra

Allegra comes in 2 forms, or used to: one is somewhat sedating, the D-variant isn't (decongestant). I use the non-D version. Makes me a bit sleepy, so I take it at night. It works pretty well for me, and is less likely than Claritin to give me a headache.

the D version uses pseudoephedrine which requires a signature at purchase to make sure you're not running a meth lab. not a good idea to take it for a long period of time.

Yeah I'm not a fan of shotgun meds anyway. Buy the Sudafed separately from the Allegra. On the days you need it, then take it.

This year I've been taking one (generic) Claritin every morning, and following it up with a snort of prescription Nasonex. Other than my eyes itching, this has been the least-painful allergy season I can recall.

Personally, I miss Seldane. Taken off the market many years ago, but it worked great for me...

Claritan quit working , half a zyrtec works well for me.

So, Danny, you have seen a bulk bottle of KS generic Allegra at Costco where you are? Or just the name brand Allegra in a big blister pack box?

Personally Claritin never worked for me, nor did Zyrtec; Allegra always did -- but insurance wouldn't cover thanks to Claritin being OTC. Happily back on Allegra these days and haven't had any issues yet with my usual springtime allergies.

Generic Allegra (fexofenadine) has been out for years as a prescription product. You may not see much of it on store shelves yet given Allegra just went OTC and as a brand is being marketed pretty heavily right now, but the generic versions should be available in the near future.
