No--the voices in my head have gone away for now

I am stumped-when I scoll a page (either with scroll wheel or using the down arrow) I get feint, short, quick, multiple chirping/clicking sounds. It occurs in many programs.

I can handle it during scrolling-but the real killer is that when I select an item in Canvas it just keeps going. it even persisits if Canvas is not the active window.

I have tested with external speakers plugged in (speakers on and off) no external speakers. The sound is no coming from the speakers-if is comming from inside the computer.

I am on a G5 Dual 2.0 GHz with 2.5 GB of Ram running 10.4.6. I try to keep third party apps/hacks to a minimum.

I have looked in preferences--and can't find any settings.

Please--any ideas--it is feint, but it is driving me nuts--and I can't keep Canvas open.

I hear that on my Powerbook all the time (when it is very quiet) - but I thought it had something to do with the hard drive caching or something.

Check the Energy Saver preferences under Performance, change the setting, try again.

Power supply. 'Chirps' with demand, no noise when constantly loaded.

Use Apple's CHUD tools and set the processors to never nap or keep a load on them (F@H).

For me, the chirping became worse after upgrading to Tiger.

happens here too -- going back to 10.3.9 -- for this and other reasons (see my threads on spotlight)

Thanks Grim and Pat--I tried the Energy Saver settings---it is the worst when on highest--and is gone on lowest.

That diagnosed the issue---now for a longtime cure!!!!
