Just downgraded my iPhone 3G to iOS 3.1.3 from 4.whatever

Tired of the slowness and decided to do something about it. Followed this guide, and it worked perfectly:

[lifehacker.com]

The result--almost every operation I've tried is noticeably quicker. I did lose a few nice things (combined inbox, folders), but I'd rather have the speed.

I upgraded my 3G to 4.2.1 aq couple days ago, jailbroke it, and so far it's running a lot better.

Good to know. I'm just about to do the same.
Yea, I ran better for a few days on 4.2.1.
Slowly it started to crawl. Apps take forever to open.

My only issue will be finding versions of the few apps I do use still available for 3.13.

monster,

did you disable multitasking on your JB 4.2.1 3G? i read that m.t. really drains the battery down quickly.

can the 3g really multitask? Battery life on iOS 4 was fine on my 3G, especially for a device that's now 2.5 years old.

absolutely I disabled multitasking, my battery is bad enough as it is; love my Mophie battery backup case though.

still waiting for iPhone 5, though I may find myself buying a used 3GS or iPhone 4 in the meantime.

my 3G is still on 3.1.3 - don't see a real reason to JB or put 4.x on it.

battery blows IMHO.

that worked well. a giant step backwards for sanity.
I'll await the iPho 5 dual mode quad band with VzW or go T-Mo in Sept.
Until then, a least the 3G runs at reasonable speed without crashing.
