Did you laugh hysterically, then wipe a tear away, touching him on the shoulder saying "You kids really crack me up!"?

Either that or he's from another time in the future.

I chuckled and just asked to see the cables. Got the h#ll out of there when they wanted $39 for a Monster Cable version. CC Dingbat "that's all we carry."

this is why they HAD the Apple Demo Days program in place - and I would do it (for a whopping $75 on a Sat and Sun) to explain to the dingbats how Apple wanted stuff sold/demo'd, etc., and also take the overflow, sell the products if needed, demo iMovie, whatever, and push the sales to the idiots.

All I ever did was pump the $120 after taxes, for the weekend, back into MicroCenter/ChumpUSA/CC, to buy other stuff I wanted.

and we wonder why apple has an almost obsessive control issue over who sells their products? I would too...

Did you set her straight? I would have loved to see the reaction...

Had the same issue at the Circuit City and Best Buy up here (regarding pricing). Same cable I got for $5 off of Amazon was about $30 there.

FWIW, had some fun like this at the local Radio Shack (yeah, you see it coming, don't you?). I went in asking for a Firewire cable, and got the blank stare.

Then I though, well, maybe they only know it by the name IEEE-1394, so I mentioned that.

RS: "Man, I ain't never heard of that."

Me: "It's pretty common on camcorders."

RS: "Oh, we have those!"

He proceeded to show me the device version. I said that I needed the regular version, as I needed to hook a hard drive to a computer.

RS: "No, those cables are only for camcorders."

Me: "I know that; that's why I need the one with this type of plug on both ends."

RS: "What kind of computer?"

Me: "An iMac."

RS: "Oh, there's the problem, then. They don't make that cable for anything but Apple Macintosh computers."

Me: "Actually –" and then my wife just shook her head as to say "no, give it up"

RS: "We have these fast cables," showing me the USB2 cables on the wall. "They're about the same size, maybe it will fit anyway".

Never went there again, needless to say.

"MAYBE IT WILL FIT ANYWAY"

HAHA! LOL, ROTFL, LMAO, etc etc...

whew. I rarely ever ask for help when I go to a store because the person will rarely if ever know what I am talking about and be able to locate the item faster than I could on my own.
As best I might ask what aisle a general item is located in. But never ever tell them what you want to use it for, unless you don't already know what you need, then ask here first.

I needed a 4-4pin Firewire cable for my dad to use, went out looking during xmas shopping, best deal was $25. Forget that, I went online and ordered the same cable plus TWO more, SHIPPED for $10 TOTAL.

Years ago I swore off CompUSA for anything other than specific sales items when I went to get a VGA adapter. There was space in the display for an $8, a $12 & $29 model but all they had in stock was the Belkin $29 adapter. I got one on eBay for $5 including shipping. Of course this was back in the days before everything was at least $9.95 for shipping.

Apple is seemingly abandoning Firewire so get used to it. I expect in just a short time all new consumer camcorders will not have Firewire.

Some consumer camcorders have USB 2.0.

I don't know if they formerly had FW.

I'd hate to see FW go the way of the floppy for 2.0.

From what I've seen, that's only to transfer file stored in memory, not for controlling the camera like a DVR.

LOL!
Speedy, when did this happen?
If you bring up the new 'Pods, the reason they don't have FireWire is that the damn Ti FW chip is huge, Apple had to make a decision based on which one would reach the most people.

Also, the new laptop spec board that Intel is designing for Apple has FW800 on it.
Why would Apple abandon the professional video market?

BGnR, I've tried to tell that to a number of people -- about the size of the FW chip, and that was one of the logical reasons they were going USB2 with the new 'Pods. Some people just like to be the ones hammering the nail in the coffin (or so they think).

Yep Zoid,
Folks are pretty dense when it comes to tech, they only see it from their very tiny corner of the planet. They refuse to do any research, or even listen to logic.
Apple has cornered the pro/prosumer market with FW and FCP, and the home video folks with iMovie, if you have seen what is on the Windows side, you can see why Apple has the market cornered.
Yes, the USB port on the cameras are for downloading stills from the Sony camera memory stick.

'Reminds me of the guy at Radio Shack who wouldn't let me buy a PRAM battery when I told him it was for a Mac.

He said all parts for Macs had to be special ordered.

Doesn't the PRAM battery at Radio Shack state that it is for a mac on the package?

No. It's just a generic 1/2 AA 3.6v Lithium lighter battery.

Hi everyone,

Just want to point out that some imacs do not have firewire. However, they are very old models. This is not to say I'm defending the CC rep. No way. He was clearly clueless.
