between the noise and the opportunity to throw volleyballs and the like into the air intakes (let alone the overall potential for landing 100 feet early!) it is hard to believe they haven't fenced off the beach at that end of the runway.

It is amazing you post this - I hadn't thought of this photo in years, but did so last night for some reason. (actually I thought of a different photo, but same beach).

I don't know what's worse, landing or taking off from that place.
(although I do remember having a bit of fun with my then GF under some blankets, when taking off, in the back of the plane.)smiling smiley

That is a warning to not lick the frozen blocks of yuck on the beach (dropped from plane), no matter how hot of a day it is!

Yeah, this beach is famous for airplanes getting this low on approach. Amazing really. It 'seems' to be a wonder that some kind of incident (whether accidental or intentional) hasn't happened yet.

No matter how many times I see (one of the many) pictures of jets landing there, I am still amazed.

Yeah, I like the warning sign!

Reminds me of riding my bike out near Honolulu airport and watching the 747s fly over my head at about 100 feet.

why no FAA tail ID on the plane??? guessing that particular French plane doesn't make it to the US on a scheduled basis, shuttling folks to/from that half-French island from the old world only...

Sometimes it is what it is...
and then there's times when it's really better.

they were real photos. My sister-in-law has a timeshare on St.Maarten, and I was there on my honeymoon.

Only US registered aircraft have the tail numbet starting with "N" the French registered aircraft in these photos do have "F" registration numbers on the wings and rear fuselage (visible on the body just ahead of the aft door under the begining of the vertical stabilizer {tail}) also since they were on a public web site if you can read the registration it is prefered that you make it unreadable by editing the photo.

The planes are probably still about 100 + or - feet above the ground from the look of the runway markings and skid marks.

Actually, you can see the ID. It's on the fuselage, just forward of the upper forward corner of the rearmost door.

That's the right side I was talking about. The other right side on the left.

(I don't know why I typed right... I did know where it was. Really. I'm serious...)
