airport zap laptop?

A friendof mine just returned home to find his laptop (a PC)not working at all. Won't turn on. It was working shortly before he left, and when he got home it didn't. So the only thing I can think of is whatever it was subjected to at the airport? Maybe?

He didn't check it with his luggage and let the baggage handlers at it, did he? Just sending it on the belt through the x-ray machine wouldn't hurt it, if that's what you're thinking.

I am not sure if he checked it or not. Isn't your checked baggage subjected to harsher scans than your carry on items? I didn't figutre either one would have caused a problem, but he didn't know what else could have caused it. i suppose if he checked it, it could have been caused by the delicate handling by the baggage handlers.

I cannot imagine someone checking a laptop. Oy.

Checking a laptop would be murderous. I send my powerbook through the x-ray machine in standby mode and it doesn't cause any problems.
