hard drive guts transplant ?

I'm talking discs from one into the body of another.
Nuked my OEM Seagate 4.3G from my G3 today before I could transfer all the data. The power supply let go. I have most everything but a few invoices, last updated Quicken and some MP3s.
Nothing that'll kill me.
I was thinking of trying a hard drive disc transplant. I have nothing to lose.
If the power supply is easily swapable, then I'm golden.
I'm reasonably technically astute. Use to be maintenance in music studios.
Anyone have a link that I can read up on?

I'm confused...

The power supply of the G3, or the power supply (board) of the hard drive itself?

A couple years ago, a local Apple shop had an identical HD model to one I had that (naturally) the user had critical data on, and never backed up (despite my reminding this user to BACK UP repeatledly...).
The tech was able to swap the circuit board on the OUTSIDE of the hard drive with an identcal make and model board that he had on the shelf.

We were able to rescue the data.

If something inside the hermetically sealed HD "shell" goes bad... put a fork in the drive, 'cause it's DONE.
Likewise, if you open that case, forget it... it's hosed.
