Cement (?) dust stuck on my car :(

I washed the car lest week. A few days later I noticed the car full of a fine gray dust, especially on the lower half, wheel wells, splash guards. Wife said there was a lot of dust on a road she drove on a that day. I didn't have time to wash it right away, and I thought it was just dust.

Well, on Friday I had some maintenance done on the car and they also washed the car (courtesy wash) and the damn gray dust is still there. I thought they didn't do a good job at the car wash, so yesterday I used the garden hose and tried to wash the car again. The damn thing doesn't come off. O tried to scrape it off with my fingers, with my nails, it looks like it's stuck there for good. I think it is cement. I am not sure though, but what else could it be? what should I try next? I don't want to damage the paint. Although the car is 10 years old, the body is in very good condition, no dents, no body damage, no rust, no scratches, only some fading o the chrome trims here and there since the car was always parked outside.

Thanks

Stop by a reputable body shop and ask them what you need to do. I would think a good cleaner wax would remove it. I wouldn't use a rotary buffer; I've seen a lot of cars with swirly lines on them from those. I'm sure there's an easy solution to it.

Try vinegar. Spray it on, wait just a bit then rinse off. If that doesn't work, you could try Speedy Clean concrete dissolver. Reportedly, it doesn't damage paint or clear coat.

You could also contact your local Ready Mix plant. They typically have products that will remove concrete from their vehicles.

Last option would be to go to a detailer and pay them to remove it.

How could it be cement? Wet cement is poured, not sprayed, and when dry cement is turned into dust it's abrasive but not adhesive.

It is more likely paint overspray. See if you can scrape some particles off with your fingernail. I agree, a detailer will probably have the highest likelihood of success for this whereas the amateur-in-the-driveway is likely to end up with a scratchy mess.

I already tried that, but I will try again.

dry cement/concrete is hygroscopic. Dust gets on the surface, and it absorbs the humidity from the air
and the reaction takes place.

Did you drive through an area or road where they were doing the roads with tar & chip? Happened to me.

Try an auto detailer

If you kept a good coat of wax on the car everything would wash off with the wax.

It seems that if I scratch off with my fingernail, it eventually comes off. Will look into this tomorrow, now I enjoy Father's Day smiling smiley

Take it to a detailer.

They will use a "Clay bar" on it.
