I remember there was a post about some special electric shaver that will clear the bushes in difficult areas. Should that greatly help reducing the lices' chances of hiding?

Actually our school nurse tells people with lousy kids to use a hair-dryer set on high each time the kids' hair is washed. Seems to work... at least until they become heat-resistant. (Death Valley strain?)
