GoLive versus Dreamweaver; how to spend (not much) money?

I'm using GoLive 6 (Academic), and it's getting to where I need to upgrade.

I'm not a big fan of Dreamweaver. High on the list of negatives is the non-functionality of the Assets panel, as detailed on Macromedia's page of Dreamweaver issues.

I also like GoLive's compartmentalizing of items according to whether they get uploaded, or they're just tools the site uses. Dreamweaver can cloak, it seems, but that's not as tidy.

I'm guessing that GoLive and Dreamweaver won't co-exist forever. However, I'm assuming that whatever I buy today will still work great, even if the product is discontinued.

Money's a bit tight, so full versions of Adobe's Creative Suite or Macromedia Studio aren't really alternatives. So, as I see it:

Option 1: Upgrade to GoLive CS 2 for $169.
Option 2: Upgrade to Creative Suite Premium 2 for $749. (Pricey; just putting it out there to get opinions.)
Option 3: Put all plans on hold until after MacWorld and/or Adobe/Macromedia product consolidation.

Advice is appreciated.

Greg, have you taken a look at Nvu? It is a free html editor that is very similar to Dreamweaver.

[versiontracker.com]

I am using it and like it very much.

Otherwise, from the options you have presented, I would upgrade GoLive.

Cheers and good luck, Gutie

Adobe is now selling a "web suite" that includes Dreamweaver AND GoLive (along with a metric ton of other stuff, including the whole CS2 Suite):

Price is $899 if you have CS1 (the original Adobe CS) and MX or higher. Otherwise the price is $1,899.

Your most price-wise option is to just upgrade GoLive (cost: $169), but it's starting to seem like Adobe is -- for now, at least -- going to support both "families."

Value-wise, the web bundle looks to be the best deal.

I still want to see Steve buy Adobe after Macromedia is absorbed.
