The iPhone 5 wait is killing me

Is anyone else around here going crazy? My contract ended in June and just about all I can think about is getting an iPhone 5. I know it is stupid. I guess I never learned to have any patience. banghead smiley

I've yet to own an iPhone. Even so, life goes on pretty much as it always has.

I'm also excited about the 5. My original has served me well for a good 4 years now, but it's time for something Six Million Dollar-Mannish.

Well, I own an iPhone already, and unless it can transform itself into a full-size working Cylon #6, I could care less about the iPhone 5 (about which we know nothing). In the immortal words of William Shatner, "Get a life!"

"In science it often happens that scientists say, 'You know that's a really good argument; my position is mistaken,' and then they would actually change their minds and you never hear that old view from them again. They really do it. It doesn't happen as often as it should, because scientists are human and change is sometimes painful. But it happens every day. I cannot recall the last time something like that happened in politics or religion." (1987) -- Carl Sagan

Ummm, I think you might be over estimating by a bit =).

its $15 for the 200 meg data plan. more than enough for just about anyone.

Wife and I dropped our minutes from 900 to 700 then added 2 data plans and the bill is the same -- but now we have iPhones =)

Even so, life goes on pretty much as it always has.

And why wouldn't it.

I know several people who've only recently got a 'Phone, all iPhone 4s, and they are amazed. They do a lot more now that they've met the iOS, and truly enjoy the 'Phone for work or play. They've had "phones" before and they've always been "good enough", in the John Wayne "I just make phone calls" tradition.

Now they've found they can do far more than that, and use the 'Phone for more work and play then they ever imagined. I tell them "Welcome to the world of a visionary".

My 3GS feels long in the tooth, and navigating from podcast to timer to Mail to music feels slow now, with only 2G of free space. My contract was up in February and att wouldn't let me get a 4 without penalty, even though others who bought when I did, were allowed.

So I'm ready for a 5, 4GS, whatever. With a faster processor than the 4 I'm hoping to see some real improvement in navigation speed. And the better screen and camera than my 'Phone will be welcome too.

When the first 'Phone was about to be announced, I didn't care if it had a camera or not. But since getting the 2G, I've used the camera a lot, and the 4 takes outstanding pictures.

Where can I meet him/her/it? Sounds pretty life-changing! Does he/she/it work at the iStore? the iMarket? iCityHall? I'm hoping it comes with a servant so I can find a lot more time in the day to do more.

jdc,

"Ummm, I think you might be over estimating by a bit =)."

Anyone who I know who owns one (I actually would like an iPhone) spends over $125 a month on it. Currently I have a non-contract T-Mobile plan that sets me back a whopping $30 (flat fee, no extra costs, taxes, etc.) a month. Am I missing anything or is there a iPhone plan out there that's as inexpensive as mine? confused smiley

Note: In my monthly plan I get 1500 minutes and 2gb.

I've one one since the 2G, and now the 3GS.

So I've got the 'Phones Jones.

LOL, or maybe SteveO-M-G.

In the immortal words of William Shatner, "Get a life!"

Most of us already have a nice one. And improved tech often makes it nicer. And I'm secure enough to say I'm really looking forward to the next 'Phone.

I'm comfortable with 450 minutes that rollover, grandfathered unlimited data (though I could probably live well on 2Gs), corporate discount, and $5 for 200 texts.

I'd like the Mobile to Any Mobile Free plan, but even though I keep my unlimited data, I have to get the $15 unlimited messaging, which I have absolutely no need for.

So the only car payment less than my bill is no car payment.

Where can I meet him/her/it?

For starters, you'd have to come to CA. But if you look, you can probably find similar examples where you are.

Sounds pretty life-changing!

It has been. Maybe not like the toaster, power windows, DVD, or electric starter, but to a person, none of them want to go back to their old phones! None.

Does he/she/it work at the iStore? the iMarket? iCityHall?

None of them work at the iStore or iMarket. Some of them work for the County and the City, but not iCityHall. Two of them work at home, managing the home and children.

I'm hoping it comes with a servant so I can find a lot more time in the day to do more.

Learn to use it (which isn't difficult at all) and it *is* the servant.

---

My bill is about $60, plus various taxes, although the 'Phone actually costs me more than that considering the various apps I buy. When I lose my corporate discount, it'll cost more.

And I'm ok with that.

Then you need to get out more. My total ATT monthly is $102 for one iPhone with 200mb data and 200 texts plus my son's non-smartphone line with 1500 texts and Smartlimits on his account. We share 550 minutes.

agree smiley I've got about the same set up for about the same price; I'd never spend $125/mo on one phone.

I also agree w/ the OP. I am ready for an iPhone 5 right now! but I guess we'll just have to wait...

SteveA, SteveO-M-G...LOL. Good stuff!

Just as a sidenote, yes you can have an iPhone for $50/month with an unlimited talk, text and web. Thanks to rgG.

I'll agree wholeheartedly with the comments above. Once you've owned an iPhone or I'd guess any smartphone...all other phones seem pretty useless. A smartphone really makes my life a lot easier...then there's that famous Apple UX we all so dearly love (sips Kool-Aid). I'll be glad when it's all the more convenient and exponentially faster with a 64gb iPhone 5! pimp smiley

I am dying for a new iphone. My Original has a 4-8 hour battery life, depending on how I use it. I need my Nano4g for long trips. The screen has grey spots from too many drops. My finances prevented me getting the latest model until January, then I starting seeing rumors of a larger screen. I decided to wait until the regular update in Spring. Now I am really really wanting a new phone, but not right now.

I will wait!

Friendlier? My post had no intent other than humor. I don't see how it could be interpreted as unfriendly, any more than William Shatner's comedy bit.

We have rearranged our monthly finances a bit for Mrs. Z to get an iPhone 5, as her Touch + regular cell is just not cutting it anymore after many years. Great thing about waiting so long up 'til now is another few months is no big deal.

So you thought telling me to get a life would make me laugh? Is that how you take it when someone tells you to get a life? "Get a life" is just a rude way of trivializing something. The Will Shatner bit was not the origin, it was a parody of rude people who actually tell others to get a life. Never mind. Don't bother replying, I just figured out who "Ignore this user" is for.

Noted as an impartial observer:

- davester's effort to provide context for the "get a life" comment by referencing the infamous Shatner skit would seem to support his assertion that the comment was made in jest.

- you yourself in your original OP admit that your reaction to the impending iPhone 5 release is "stupid."
