Momma with her Children

Found this in the living room this morning. We often have scorpions in the house but I have never seen one with her babies. Unfortunately I was unable to get a picture on a more natural background.

They deep fry and eat them in the orient. Quit being babies about them.

Terminix comes quarterly (tomorrow), but supposedly there is no poison that works on scorpions. The trick is to kill the insects that they eat and they will stay away if they find no food. We are in the middle of a severe drought, which causes them to come indoors too. The exterminator has placed sticky traps impregnated with a pheromone throughout the house which work very well. However if one of the animal cruelty groups hears about it I will likely be in trouble.

We live in the middle of five rugged, arid acres overlooking the Guadalupe River in the Texas Hill Country in New Braunfels just north of San Antonio. We have all sorts of critters including coral and rattle snakes (which we very rarely see), coyotes, raccoons, possums, ring tailed cats, deer, and a large variety of birds including road runners, painted buntings (do a Google on them if you want to see a strange looking bird), robins, and canyon jays.

eww
you got those nasty brown spiders that hide in boots, too.

:-)

As much as I'm not a fan of sticky traps, I have to admit they work.
I can put a critter caught in one out of it's misery , but I have to take a shower afterwards.
(it doesn't help)

I have a friend at work who was stung in the back of the neck by a scorpion while he was sleeping. Thankfully I've never seen one.

A scorpion sting is much like a bee sting...it only lives so long after it stings AND after I smash it! We have them in Oklahoma too.

I've been thinking about arachnids lately, because last week I found a tick on me two times in two days. Scorpions are scary because they can cause a lot of pain, but they don't actively search you out like ticks do. With ticks, it's you against them...good luck with the eradication!

not that I wouldn't freak out about that, but as long as it's not in my bedroom or bathroom, I can live with some creepy crawlies. but, of course, they can't read the off-limits signs at the doorways to those two rooms.

Neato, and it reminds why I don't live out west. eye popping smiley

I woke up the other morning to find a very large miller moth on my bedroom ceiling. I had to focus a bit before figuring out it wasn't a bat. Don't know how he got in, but damn, he was HUGE! Your pest is much scarier.

Hal - as you probably guessed, the brightly colored bunting is the male. The female is a light olive green. The first time wife described the male she had seen I found the mix of colors hard to believe. They often visit the two feeders I have hanging just outside the door where I sit working on one of our Macs. Last year I found a pair dead on our deck, having flown into the sliding glass door.
