The Transportation Security Administration is implementing new security measures including a prohibition of the transportation on board domestic or international flights to or from the U.S. of printer or toner cartridges weighing 16 ounces or more. Accordingly, effective Monday, November 8, 2010, passengers are prohibited from transporting these items in either carry-on or checked baggage.

How often do you take a 16 oz toner cartridge on a trip?

The war on water is now extended to our arch enemy, ink.

toner = black powder
black powder = black powder

too much wasted time/energy to determine the difference.
money saved will reduce national debt.

Because TSA is reactionary and takes "feel good" measures. If they would only spend the money on sniffer devices, they could easily detect explosives and other questionable chemicals. Combine it with x-ray machines for luggage and metal detectors for passengers would handle the rest.

My mistake, it's toner that we battle, not ink. I guess that means I can't take my LaserWriter 16/600 as carryon any more.

I'm sure it has to do with that incident where they found Al Quada trying to ship bombs housed in toner cartridges via UPS and Fed Ex from Yemen.

Doesn't anyone else remember this?

How strange. Why would they do this?
Isn't this supposed to be the "information age?"
You'd think there would be an explanation available somewhere.

It is not about security. It is about security theater.

Exactly. Except, now we're going to need healthcare reform as the use of backscatter scanners is going to radiate frequent fliers. It's the only radiation device I've seen with no calibration or inspection stickers. Just glad that I'm done having children.
