I'm having a refrigerator delivered today and was wondering if it's normal to tip the guy and how much.

No. I will offer a drink or something and typically let him know to not worry about breaking/moving anything if he needs to, etc...just to maybe ease his comfort level a little in case he is stressed or worried about that stuff a little too much. I don't want anything broken, but if it's going to happen, it's probably going to happen regardless of the slight decrease in carefulness, no use putting added pressure.

I was one and maybe 0nce a week got a tip usually by some person who couldn't afford it. The rich people didn't and everybody thought you were getting paid 15 to 20 dollars an hour. Even thou is was just past minimum wage

Generally I do - anytime somebody carries stuff I don't want to carry or move around I give a tip.

I bet those guys doing curbside check in at the airports make a lot of money in tips.

Yeah, I give the poor hard -working guy a real classy lunch.
Course the last appliance guy that delivered the fridge, washer and dishwasher was me.

Yes. Especially if the delivery location is particularly troublesome or it all went really fast.

If delivery is straightforward, usually not. But I do tip if they are carrying something else out or if the job is a bit more complicated.

I definitely tipped the guys who delivered to my house. They had to carry the washing machine and dryer up stairs, not hit any walls and get them installed. If they had nicked a wall then no.

Yeah, if they do a great job and don't break anything then I would consider it.

If they're delivering it to the doorstep, no...
But last time I had a refrigerator delivered, and brought inside to the kitchen (up some stairs), yeah...
It's been a decade, so I don't recall how much.

I do (did) - especially when they did a good job moving them in, not nicking walls, cabinets, etc. If the reverse was the case, a pleasant thank you was all they got. I wound up with one of the delivery guys as a steady PC virus client - he has several kids. He even sends his father to me.

So basically what some of you are saying is that you tip someone for DOING THEIR JOB. I don't get a tip for doing a great website design. Or laying out a really nice ad. Why? B/c it's my job. If i don't do it right, I get fired.

Guess what? If you are a delivery guy, there MIGHT be stairs. Hey. That's part of the job. And yes. Someone might not want you to mess up their walls. Again. Part of the job. They may not be paid much but they are being paid.

Yes, I do. I couldn't possibly lift and move a lot of the stuff they move, and I think they appreciate the tip.

Not generally. I do try to make the delivery as easy as possible though, and tell them to back up to the garage door and leave it there. Even if they offer to take whatever it is inside.

Most delivery trucks have a power gate and simply lowering the object down to the ground doesn't require too much effort for the delivery guys, in my book.

We had a whole kitchen full of Frigidaire their supposed Professional line delivered last Fall and I couldn't
get those bums out of our home fast enough, what a bunch scumbags. They were suppose to be here on
Thur. then I got a call they're not coming until 9am Sat. and they show up at 5pm and have our handyman/
contractor here all day waiting to install them all. Forgot to say No I don't.

Depends.

What was the charge, how many items, how heavy, how on time and good is the service.

Grateful,

Seems like your anger is misplaced. Unless I'm misreading your post, it sounds like your blaming Frigidaire (owned by Electrolux) for a problem caused by the delivery department and staff of the store from whom you purchased said appliances. I could be mistaken but that is how your post reads.

That said, to everyone, I always offer refreshments to delivery staff and tip for a job well done. That means, if they complete the delivery and/or installation) in a timely manner, without damaging the goods and/or anything in my home, conduct themselves in a professional manner, clean up after themselves, etc. Essentially, as with servers at a restaurant, they must earn it.

Robert
