I was expecting a package today. I need the contents tomorrow.

The tracking info for the package indicates that it has been rescheduled for delivery tomorrow. By the time the postman gets here with it, that will undoubtedly be too late.

The post office hours are 9am to 5pm. I don't know whether the carriers observe the same schedule as the clerks.

What time should I show up at the post office to intercept the mail carrier and request my package before he leaves on his rounds?

At most post offices, you can ring a bell on a door and someone will come and if the package is there, they will give it to you then. That's life in a town of 8,000. YMMV.

Even if you could, I don't know that they would help you. It will undoubtedly be buried on a truck somewhere, I'd think. Maybe they will but don't get your hopes up. Good luck.

If you don't know your postman and his routine, you're out of luck. You'd just be taking a stab in the dark.

Alright... taking a stab in the dark, I think I'm gonna try hitting the post office at 7:15am and ringing the bell in the back twice if I can't otherwise catch someone's attention.

If there's nobody in yet, I'm gonna try again at 8:15.

Your mail may be sorted at a carrier unit separate from your local retail PO, and potentially not accessible to you at the retail counter. You can try, but you may be SOL. If you know where your carrier's carrier unit is, check usps.com for that location's hours, and call before opening to see if you can catch your carrier while still in-house. You might get lucky.

You should be able to go to usps.com and tell them you want to pick the package up rather than wait for delivery.

The main post office for me has a Caller door where businesses pick up their mail in the morning. I get my packages for my PO Box there. It opens at 0600.

Also, check to see if there's a back dock were customers drop of mail, especially near the end of the day, if there's nobody at the front. You may be able to ask someone to get you a supervisor.

7ish should be plenty early. I doubt the post office loads up trucks like UPS or FedEx.

When I showed up, I was told that if I were trying to pick up regular mail I could do so, but packages were sorted separately and would be unavailable unless I could catch the carrier on his route.
