Uh,

Im only sposed to have three ram slots in this machine (g4 DA 533 dual) but when i open system profiler it says that there are 4 slots...2 empty. And, the guy who sold it to me has one chunk of pc 133 loaded and one chunk of pc 100 loaded...the min requirement for the machine is 133, no?

straighten me out, please.

doesn't really matter cause im gonna dump all the ram and max it out..wondering about the 4 slot thing though

yeah, was figuring on purchasing some memory from OWC.

The main question was...how much? ...were there some freak machines of this model that have 4 memory slots?

No freak machines that I know of, that was a bug in the system profiler exclusive to that model. Mine also reported 4 slots but had three and yes the buss is 133Mhz requiring PC 133 RAM. Good reference to use for sorting out questions on any model is the freeware MacTracker. [www.mactracker.ca] I keep it on hand as a great reference to any Mac product. You can’t go too far wrong ordering from the OWC site using their references either. BTW: 512MB is max size recognized in three slots for max of 1.5GB

3 X 512MB = 1.5GB

No, no DA ever came with four RAM slots. That bug in ASP has been known since the DAs were introduced. Buy three DIMMs. And if that PC100 RAM works in your DA, then it's not PC100 after all.

RAM can overclock. It's possible that the PC100 RAM you have is either mislabeled, or good stuff that can handle 133 Mhz operation. If you ever experience crashes and KP's, you should know where to look.

Looks like all the answer already given. smiling smiley

DA = 3 slots

PC133 only... but frakin Apple ASP doesn't always report it correctly if that is where it is showing up as PC100. Now - if it's labeled as PC100, if it is working - it would have to be operating at 133MHZ speed or wouldn't work.
