Torx 6

So, where are you most likely to come across these?
In an eyeglass repair kit? Somewhere else?
The smallest size I've ever seen for sale and the smallest size in my computer repair kit is an 8.
Thanks . . .

I've got a folding Allen-wrench set with the equivalent. There's a difference, but not so much that it doesn't work.

Sears tool department has *everything*, including sets of Torx tools down to No. 6. You might even try Radio Shack for a cheapie all-in-one electronics toolbox that may have a No. 6 in it.

*sigh* I suppose I could find the same at Microcenter but it's not somewhere I pass every day (or week or even month) . . .

I've looked at Sears tool department in the past (when trying to find a "10" I think, needed it to get into a laptop) and they definitely absolutely had nothing that small. Are you sure you catually saw this there?
The kit I mentioned is from Radio Shack and is actually a few steps above "cheapie all-in-one", and the smallest torx is a 10.

Any store that sells supplies for machinists will have these. Torx screws of all sizes are used to hold carbide inserts in cutting tools. Look for hand tools, measuring equipment (metrology) etc. Check in the phone book under metrology, metalworking supplies or metalworking tools, you should be able to find something in a city the size of Chicago. Do you have a Tool Town, or a Harbor Freight Sales store nearby? Any store that sells just tools should have it.

Just had to add: you are the forums most unbelievable whimp and attention getter ho'ard. You ask questions that a 12 year old could Google an answer for.

What's with that?

anyone still have one of those long handle things for the Mac SE?

I've got a few machines and no idea when the last time I even saw that wrench was. Been at least 10 years.

OK, somebody please explain to me why I just HAVE to buy that little kit OWC Larry sells! What's in there that I would need if I ever decide to attack my 17" PB?

Because they look cool. That's why you need them. And there's a lot of them. You never know when you will need a good Torx.

Not only do I still have one, but it is in my regular toolkit that I carry and use every day. It fits nicely across the back and tucks under some velcro tie-downs.

I can't remember the last time that I used it on a Mac, but it's occasionally useful for fishing screws from tight spaces and poking holes in stuff.

I carry this kit around with me on my various work runs:

[eshop.macsales.com]

It's got the three most often-needed Torx heads for computer work (T-6, T-8, T-10), plus two Phillips and two flat-heads.

I bought a 6 at Sears last week. Was installing a new Pana DVD-RAM drive in my 15" Al-book.

Well, now I know why Newer doesn't include one with the iPod battery (although I gladly would have paid more for it)-- they want you to buy their kit. Not paying an extra $17 for a little tool I'll use once every two years to change an iPod battery.

Alphadog, for the PB I think you only need a 10 (or is it an 8) which is a size that -is- included in the little computer tools kit from Radio Shack.

So, Jimmypoo, the long handled thing . . . is it a #6 torx? I'll be up north Saturday night, maybe you'll be in the city or you can leave it in your mailbox for me?

Unless Sears -just- started carrying these I guess my local sears are too small to have the selection yours does, dbow-- but I'll certainly check next time I'm there.

Thanks, Larry. The price difference is substantial enough that I'm still glad I chose the clearance model.
I'll see my brother tomorrow and I'll bet he can bring one-- he's been a computer and electronics weenie forever.
