Yet another hand-built model.

The problem for would-be auto manufacturers historically has been transitioning from making a few hundred hand-built specialty vehicles (e.g. the Roadster) annually to producing thousands (or tens of thousands) of mass-market vehicles rolling off an automated assembly line.

Yet another hand-built model.

They won't be rolling off a high-volume assembly line in the traditional sense, but the Model S will not be hand-built in the old world fashion either. There is a production line, and it is automated.

Unlike the Roadster, which relies on a rolling chassis supplied by Lotus, this is a vehicle that is designed, fabricated, and assembled in-house. The stamping and injection molding will be done in the same factory, and not by an outside supplier; something many larger manufacturers don't even do any longer.

And for those into zealotry, this vehicle will also be more "American" in many respects than those nameplates that use flag waving imagery to sell themselves.

Musk can be smarmy and at times, seemingly slimy, but people should root for this, and his other venture (SpaceX) to succeed. A lot of pride, and (your) money rides on it.

The range and price seem pretty good. Not quite for "everybody" yet but getting closer.

Who Killed the Electric Car? is that documentary.

It was a free, low-res download sometime back, and really interesting. As conspiracy theories go, this one has a lot of merit.

I like the passenger complement spec, but I don't see that as being practical for the long haul. Good for transporting bodies to a cement foundation in the dark of night.

I've been waiting for this car to go into production for some time (not that I'll be getting one anytime soon!). The front end reminds me of a Lambo Quattro, with I like very much.

...I don't think it will be faster than a 911, unless it's a very basic model.

But I can see where it will certainly be quicker than a 911.

Maybe "faster" is referencing 1/4mi ETs.

Oh, and I see the 5+2 spec didn't include the eight passenger.
