Ding, Dong, the ZUNE is Dead !

" We recently announced that, going forward, Windows Phone will be the focus of our mobile music and video strategy, and that we will no longer be producing Zune players."

Welcome to the dustbin of me-too gadgets. It's getting kind of full with 'tablets' these days... someone better click "Empty Trash". Use "Secure" to make sure none of the junk crawls back out, tho.

Mr. Lahey: A lot of people, don’t know how to drink. They drink against the grain of the liquor. And when you drink against the grain of the liquor? You lose.

Randy: What the @#$%& are you talking about?

It's funny though, since everyone I know who ever used a Zune (myself included - but keep in mind I also have a Windows Phone 7...phone) loves it. The UI is fantastic, it's fast, smooth. The Zune Desktop Client for Windows also blows the pants off of iTunes.

Sigh... To each their own.

Everyone I've encountered who owns a Zune (OK, the 1 person) says that they love it. It seems like a decent piece of hardware except for the @#$%&-brown rubber coating on it.

I think that this sums it up.

Limited to syncing only with Windows PCs, it always seemed like a bad move on Microsoft's part for getting people to use the thing. Yes, Microsoft's strategists could point at the number of people using Windows versus the number of people using OS X and Linux to support its decision, but the fact is that they aggresively targeted the Zune at a crowd of cool kids who they thought would serve as their early adopters. The only problem is that all those kids were using MacBooks.

M$ made a lot of $$ building a decent product 5 years after the market was developed.

The Zune has always been a horse and buggy in Motown.

Windows Phone will be the focus of our mobile music and video strategy...

...and after it too fails miserably, we will introduce our own Windows Tablet device;
code-name "Casper" jest smiley
