Guess I am going back to Snow Leopard

Ditching Lion looks like the only way to use HDMI as a sound output on my MBP.
I have tried booting in safe mode, resetting pram, and resetting SMC.

Did you try re-downloading and reinstalling Lion?

No HDMI issues with my tower but so many of my Freverse games do not work and never will. I have a cloned drive with tiger and am still getting a feel for it. Upgraded it last night. No time to play with it though.

I really see Tiger as a novelty at the moment and Leopard will be my mainstay for some time.

I still have a few critical apps that are PPC coded and that keeps me in Snow Leopard or earlier

Why would it work in SL but not Lion? Are others reporting the issue? Is it just one particular model of MBP? And what does Apple say about it?

I was bummed when I discovered my not-that-old mini with SL Server didn't support audio over HDMI, but your issue is much more of a head-scratcher...

I don't know.

It sure is. I have tried everything I could think of and a few things recommended by others with no luck. There is no option for HDMI in my control panel for sound output unless I boot into Snow Leopard. I use a Wacom tablet so there are some Lion issues with that as well. Full screen apps are nice but with a screen mapped tablet there is no way to access the hidden Dock. And there is trouble with click-drag in iTunes using the pen. I was hoping updates would fix the problems but I got the latest OS X update and the latest Wacom driver but problems persist.
I hope it is not going to take all day for me going back to Snow Leopard and restoring all my data.
