Nothing personal, but I THINK THEY ALL SUCK.

You know why? Because it's not an INTEL product, it's an APPLE product. Why in the HELL do you guys think we should be looking at a stupid INTEL logo? Yeah, that's what I want, to look like a PeeCee drone, be like everybody else.

Enough of this logo crap! ARRRRRRRRRRg.

The new logo IS better than the old one, but it reminds me of someone else's logo. I just can't think of whose.

Reminds me a little of the GTE logo. And you guys are a little late to the game, the new intel logo came out a few months ago.

Maybe because Apple put "PowerPC" logos on all of its machines for many years? I wouldn't be surprised to see some mention to the processor.

I've never had a machine that said PowerPC on the outside.

That includes the Beige, an iMac, the Pismo, the Blue and White and even a 6100.

Which machines are you talking about?

I think we will be seeing allot more Apple ads and unlike IBM/Motorola, Intel will be sharing the cost (joint advertising)... Not a bad thing for Apple or Intel... I predict that "if" Windows XP can be loaded on an Apple machine (or have two os's loaded at once), the next few years are going to be HUGE for apple... MS might even approach apple for a change to "pre-load" XP on business machines...

I've been starting to wonder if the reason MS bought VPC from connectix was because someone at Apple leaked the intel plan "before" it was official. Making MS very nervous that someone else would get the license agreement other than them. And connectix was probably the one company that could imbed windows within their VPP and run natively in the background on a Mac w/ Intel.

Just a thought... but, what the heck do i know...

All the beige PowerMacs from the 6100-8100 to the G3s had PowerPC logos on the front. Apple discontinued the practice when they switched to the various semi-transparent machines (iMac, B&W G3).

It goes both ways.

Besides the obvious "Aqua-fication" of the Intel logo, look closely at the browser window the dog's holding in its mouth (from a recent Intel "Digital Home Scavenger Hunt" ad). Coincidence?

That's a funny little Safari window, but I wouldn't read too much into it. Design and production at most traditional or interactive ad agencies is done on Macs; so, if you want a screen grab of a web browser window for an ad you're putting together, you're going to see a lot of Safari (or a lot of IE 5 for Mac OS 9 over the years).

Tell me I'm in denial, but I just can't get used to the idea that Apple is really going to have "Intel Inside".

I know it's an "Us against Them" attitude I have. Old habits...

Agreed, MacArtist. It's a 1984 (the novel, not the Mac intro) situation -- we were told (by the Ministry, eh?) for years that Intel was evil, that the PowerPC trumped it in so many ways, etc., it's damn difficult to suddenly say it's the best thing that's ever happened to the Mac. Time will tell, but the more I think about it, the more comfortable I am with it.

Intel can have their logo printed on as far as I'm concerned.

On the chip. Inside the machine.

No where else.

Just my personal opinion, but I don't want to see the Intel logo on it. I am for having a special chip for the Mac (eg, not a "P4") with a cool name akin to PowerPC. Then having that printed on the outside. But Apple must be in charge of the design.

ÜberPC has a nice ring to it ;o)

MAVIC,

You were right, obviously.

I KNEW that I had obviously seen it on the box and SOMEPLACE else, yet I could not envision WHERE it was!!

And here I did have a few of the machines that have them (just not within viewing reach.)

Talk about things being imprinted and not knowing WHY!

I wonder if, in fact, it was Apple who started this - and Intel responded with that smarmy practice of slapping it on everything everyone makes since.

another Apple trend gone awry!

Well.... at least those Pentijunk stickers can be peeled off.

It probably wasn't until the beige G3 era that I knew "PowerPC" was referring to the processor type.

When the Pentium came out, I think Intel retroactively applied logical names to their processors also out, like the 386 and 286.

I think the toughest part about this is now such great visuals as:

are contrary to what we're currently being told. Oh well, that was when the G4 came out. It was true. And then we got stuck on hold with moto. I welcome the switch to Intel, provided Apple gets some special chips, or at least are always on par with the best Intel chips.

thanks for that image again!

I'd forgotten about it.

That goes into my collection of images I may never use, but always like to look at every now and then.

Now... the BIRTHDAY images.... some of those get reviewed more often.

I suspect even if Apple would consider it, Intel would balk at the asking price for anthing on the outside.

I'm still worried about the OS X build for Intel. A lot of sites are saying it is very, very rough and will be for a while.

In addition to all the benchmarks over the years we've been given to show the superiority of the moto chip, all the software we now own will basically run in emulation on the new box.

Inderstanding the lack of consistent production from motorola, it feels like Apple is moving awfully fast for such a massive transition.

Those who jump in the water for the Rev. 1s of the new macs should be given massive discounts and strong software packages plus coupons for other software for the new machines when they are available.

Of course, it won't be the first time Apple has used its loyal customers to beta test stuff.

Last time we saw a PPC logo was on a beige box...indeed. That's my point, I don't think we need anyone else's logo but Apple's on our machines. Bah humbug on that! ; )

Terrific points, freescotland, but you and I both know Apple won't be handing out goodies with their new line. And your last line sums up why. ; (
